I have copied this from the Focus RS BBS, not to start a my cars better than yours row but wondered if it was anyone from here.

I was travelling home late this evening on my own on the Motorway.

After about an hour and a half of sticking to the speed limit It dawned on me that there was no other traffic on the road.....As I was thinking that this does not happen to often, a set of lights were very quickly aproaching from behind.....at this stage I glanced at my speedo which was steady at 80mph....So I realised that the lights closing in behind me were really shifting.

Next thing I know their right up on my back bumper with full beam on, and I was thinking at this stage who or what the **** is that up my ****, when it pulled out along side me hovered there for a moment before blasting away.

Normally I would have totally ignored it, but as the road ahead was totally dead and I had not booted the RS for some time and the car in question was a Subaru STI I thought right lets see how we fare against some decent competition.

By the time that I decided to go for it he was already 10-20 yards in front so with no farther todo on went the divers boot and the RS responded instantly. I had a bit of ground to make up but slowly gained on him. by the time 142mph was on the clock I was along side him....to his disbelieve, at this stage the road ahead was still clear and as I eased passed him, I though lets leave him with a New year shock....so I kept my foot to the boards and he started to fade in the rear mirror at 160mph on the speedo the origin b2 was showing 155mph the RS was starting to run out of steam at this point and just slowly crept on the origin b2 1mph at a time until it showed a gps reading of 162MPH, I then eased it back down to a sensible speed.

I must say I smiled all the way home after that, but was left with the thought that the RS is truly an awsome bit of kit when modded even in a straight line the scooby STI could not compete...!

It certainly made my New year complete, and Im still grining now.
Im not saying its right to drive like a demon, but when road conditions permit you have to give it a bit of stick sometimes to make you realise what a fantastic car the RS is.

PAH - nothing

Coming back from Heathrow on the famous UK ring, to my astonsihment there behind me wasa Pagani, Ferrari 612, Lamborghini Gallardo & Bentley GT.

Gumball UK was on; as they sailed past at well over 160......I hit the NOS button in my Dell & Rodney 3 wheeler Robin Vantage NOS Converted Car, with the acceleration of the shuttle I overtook them all & never saw them again...

I just looked at that video and can't understand why so many RS drivers can't pull away from the line (The Top Gear test was another example). It's not as if the car was wheel spinning. It just pulled away as if it was being driven by an old granny or someone who had fallen asleep!

Ford have issued an ECU update to try and prevent the bogging down you can get but I never thought it was that bad until now. If you watch carefully you can see the Focus pull away and then appear to pause before moving again at any speed.

Get a proper driver behind the wheel and the AF update (or Bluefin) and you shouldn't have a situation where the other car has finished before the RS has even moved an inch! Not that I'm saying the RS would have won in this example - but it would have at least been a fair bit closer.

I'd happily accept defeat if the car HAD been wheel spinning (where you could then see the advantage of 4WD) but this was just silly!

err I don't think that is going to happen, the fastest RS at most trackdays I've just looked back on was 136.7. At Elvington I ran a 142.2 with two runs one and I missed 4th to fifth on both runs due to shifter problems (now had it sorted).
Also fastest 1/4 of the elvington meet by a RS was 14.37, thats a long way from 13.04 I ran with half tank of regular gas! My car is standard with only the Prodrive kit, no other mods.
Sorry but the RS is not as quick as a STI in the same way a STI isn't as quick as an EVO! although the EVO and STI PPP top out at around the same speed. Top speed is down to torque and power and 212/229 against 300/300 doesn't compute, also the figures speak for themselves 0-100 16.4 against 13 dead as found at the track days!

162 MPH on his speedo,me thinks not especially with only 267 BHP,what a load of tosh,RS Focus drivers do seem to see the Red mist when a Subaru comes near,i past one on the M57 at about 75mph that set him off where he decided to 'Have a go'i dont care what the RS site says they are sh#te i destroyed him well into 3 figures but the best bit was the tight left handed slip road, ohh dear somebody should have told him they dont corner at high speed, still his encounter with the grass verge caused more than sh#t on the outside of his car.

I'm sure the story may have some truth but why is it that any post saying that a scooby got wasted or had a good run for it's money is followed by umpteen defensive/sarcastic replies.... no matter what car/lorry/tram was racing it....

It seems to me that all you scooby drivers can see is errrrr scoobys, no other car really exsists on the roads... unless you happened to come across an EVO and beat the pants off it then we'd never hear the end of it...

they dont corner at high speed
Don't they? Thanks for the advice. I'll take my car back to Ford on Monday and tell them mine is broken.

As for the other post, a chipped RS will reach 155mph (actual - GPS confirmed) which is nearer 159-160mph on the dial. The ECU offsets the speedo by 4.5mph and is still surprisingly accurate at high speed.

But I'm sure the Impreza speedo is computer driven too so maybe I'm stating the obvious!

I don't think anyone was complaining about the video (except my comment that says it's obvious the RS forgot it was supposed to be moving!). I didn't say the RS would have won but it would have at least given it a proper run for its money - not this feeble attempt.

It's the other comments and the fact that this has, unsurprisingly, turned into another "My car is better than your car" thread.

As for the "the car can't corner" comment.. I've had an M3 nearly crash off the road, so does that mean they can't corner? Or might it be that a public road isn't the best place to try cornering at such high speed - when the road surface is frequently poor, with is oil/diesel on the road and all manner of other potential hazards...

Well it's ok having half the video evidence wheres the bit that the RS overtook the Scoob????? It's obvious that the video was chopped to show the scoob in a better light than whats it's use to....

Oooooooooh touchy.

Note use of I.E Sarcastic.

As I said on the post below it's not my video so I don't know.

Why not go to the Scooby Shoot Out or similar in your Focus and see what happens. Should be good fun for all concerned.

Nathan..

P.S Loved the Focus RS getting whooped by the Escort Cosworth on TG. Was that chopped to show the Cossie in a better light?

The Top Gear "shootout" was the exact same thing. The RS didn't pull off the line (and you can also see that the edited video was actually made up of more than one drive).

The Escort was revved up and held by the handbrake (no wonder with The Stig driving). The RS was totally still and pulled away as if it was in 5th gear.

The small turbo Escort is faster to 60 anyway, so what did JC and the rest expect? The Focus is quicker to 100 - so add a bit more distance and it would have been great to see the Focus catch up and pass.

Mind you, why didn't they take the cars on the track and do a proper test? The Focus was 1 second behind the M3, so I sincerely doubt the Escort would be beating that (in fact, it wouldn't - a recent track session saw the Escort some 8 seconds behind the Focus in standard form).

Personally, if I saw a race where the Focus won and the other car did an appauling start I'd want to race again so I could see how good the car was against fair competition. Otherwise, where's the sense of achievement? Are you testing the cars ability, or the drivers ability?

Imagine you did a series of runs and in all but one you fluffed it. The best run was 0-100 in 14 seconds, the others all around 16-17. Your worst was 18 because you messed up a gear change.. Would it now be fair for the other person to use their best time against your worst?

I know that on a simple shootout, you get the one shot. But then you're comparing THAT car with THAT driver and not all cars with all drivers.

We know that the Focus beats a standard WRX, the STi PPP beats the Focus and the Evo beats the STi. Yet here we have a heavily modified Focus with less transmission losses through a heavy 4WD system and people still totally disregard it. Why?

Question

We know that the Focus beats a standard WRX
am I just being naive in beleiving Subaru's quoted time of 5.5 for the 0-60 compared to ford's quoted time of 6.1?

Sorry Nat i fail to see where u r taking the **** in your last post.... unless thats your sense of humour

I have alot of respect for Scoobies period even though the RS has proven to beat a scoobie round the track, it's fair to say that i would waste the fuel in trying to race one off the line.

And as to the answer of your last question.... More than likely! although it was professionally done as per Jons comments

Me thinks these chaps with their supposed GPS proof, have bought a GPS unit from a wide-boy down a pub, that is a direct descendant from the cloned GPS system used by the British Navy in Tomorrow Never Dies

They think they are 12 miles further up the road, and hence the riduculous speeds they thing they are capable of!

I don't know of any GPS systems that aren't almost spot on at all but very low speeds.

If anything, the slight lag of some devices might mean you're actually going faster than it indicates (if accelerating). This kind of destroys any argument that it was giving the wrong reading!

We know the car can do 155mph with a Bluefin, so I'd accept it being possible to exceed that with mechanical improvements like a de-cat, improved manifold and air intake system.

You might of course question the long term reliability - but when you're modding at that level it's something you accept and take into account.

You gotta take your hat-off to the 'bluefin'. For 299 quid you get a fool-proof DIY ECU programmer which gives you as much BHP and torque increase as a PPP. Best part is that you can take it off as quick as it went on - Dealer Friendly! As for the rest of the story well its plausable but not 'usual' !
