Question

Just thought I'd ask for some advice so I know what to do next time

I'm briskly moving along an A road, not mad, just trying to make progress when I come up behind an RS500 Cossie. I wait for nice long sweeping bend and proceed to overtake. As i'm alongside he decides to accelerate at the same rate as me for a while and then backs off when we approach a blind crest.

Is this normal for RS500s and therefore I should never attempt an overtaking manouvre ?
or
was this guy just being a jerk ?

I did slow down after I was past to check if the spasm on the accelerator had been caused by a brain haemorrhage, but he was ok and functioning "normally".

Sounds like fair play to me. I don not like being overtaken - and you do it at your own risk

Like I say, you overtake people at your own risk. He could equally have swerved into you if he was a loon. Which I dont approve of.

He probably got sick of Subaru drivers trying to punish him and put his foot down. Subaru's aren't king of the road, so dont think you have the right to go around overtaking people scot free

Just realised you were on a bend. That's not on

But maybe not the best place to do it.

Anyone who accelerates while someone is trying to overtake is a complete T**T and needs to get up to speed on his driving skills

Ok, I was winding the handle a bit, but...

I would agree, unless you are yourself being an **** and trying to race them. If its a simple overtake, then its not on to accelerate. I think when people see something like a Subaru in the rear mirror, the hackles immidiately go up. Especially if its a beefed up STi8

Agree, its dangerous too, I have heard of people causing accidents from this. On the other hand you should have a safe distance when overtaking.

By law, if you are being overtaken, you should let the person past, if you were to cause an accident because you didnt let them past, you would be at fault.
And overtaking on corners is not illegal! Some of the best overtaking manouvers can be done on corners, learn the highway code guys, and take some advanced driving lessons, ffs!

sweeping bend with CLEAR visability and he was cruising up to that point.

he either got cramp as i was alongside or wanted to have a play to see what the scoop() with a scoob was.

I have to agree with the point made that certain drivers of certain cars just dont like you overtaking them.

I have had none performance cars and never had problems overtaking but since i've had the scoob, any ****** see's you as baiting them.

I dont just mean on a single carriageway either, i've had this on dual carriageway and motorway's even. Pr1cks if you ask me especially when the wife and kids are in car aswell

I have had a similar incident with some tw*t in a max powered up rs escort thought because I was driving my scoob he had the right to overtake cut me up and just miss an island all in one menouvre.
As you can imagine I was most impressed with his driving skill (hint of sarcasm)and it was through town, I was already doing a reasonable speed, but he just had to be in front of me no matter what!
I just laughed to myself and let him carry on instead of getting drawn into it.

Dangerous behavior indeed to try and stop people overtaking by accelerating, more acceptable on a dual carriageway or motorway where you wouldent be endangering anyone and could be seen as "having a bit of fun between car enthusiasts".

Normaly if youve hurt someones pride like this they either dont bother or may stick to your bumper after you overtook to prove a point.

However I tend to find upon occasion its ordinary drivers who floor their car when I try and overtake, however they are usually so slow they cant actually endanger me by doing this .
