Just wondering if anyone knew this lunatic!

Was a blue reno 5 gt turbo, running like 200psi or something!!!

Came out of southbury road onto A10 and was gaining on him but from me starting behind I ended up next to him at the top of 3rd gear (you know what speed that is), I've got a tek2 full decat uk impreza, i should have blown him away! would have pulled away had it not been for the stationary traffic at the next set of lights!

He had a cheap flamer kit too by the looks of things! His car stunk after the first run and quite sensibly decided to cool it (perhaps he dialled up too much boost on his boost controller to keep ahead of me or something).

So my question is, how the hell do they get these 1.4 turbo cars to go so flipping quick!

I'm probably running 260-270 brake and this nutter nearly embarrassed me

Oh it was like 20mins ago, about 9:20pm!

That was my first blast since getting the tek2 and decat, bit disappointed now! made my 15k impreza look average

I used to tune R5's..
If you are on a private stretch of road keep going to over a ton...
The temp gauge rises with the speedo after 100..

I had one running 2bar and used to leave most things in 1st and 2nd..

Can change a head gasket on an R5 with my eyes closed ive done so many... whats that tell ya?

Wasnt you driving past Tesco's Express on the hertford rd earlier was it??
Was sitting in my mums and heard a scoob go past..

Agree with Tweenierob on the headgasket and overheating problem, they are very tempramental and I mustve changed mine 4 times in one year.

I had over 200BHP which when you consider the 25bhp drive train losses and 850kg weight makes them very potent for short bursts. 13.52qtr mile in my case (also at 30psi) (next owner took it the next stage for a 12.56 qtr )

Sheering the teeth of the distributor drive at Trax and blowing an £800.00 hybrid turbo a month later made me sell it.

was dark, all I know is that it was blue, low, and stunk of oil and clutch, and looked like he'd spent more on the engine than the looks!

None of us that we know of on the RTOC but the 5 will always give u scoobys a run 4 ya money up the quarter mile or up to a ton. only after that, that u will leave us unless obviously u av 1 of them beasty 22b or P1 very nice

The 5's aint that tempermental, if u know owt about cars u can run big power in these as long as the cooling n fueling is set up corectly, otherwise headgaskets start to pop but that would have been ya own fault most of the time.

I know, its power to weight ratio mate, Im running 197lBs of torque at 17psi in something that wieghs 855KGs will keep up with alot of things on the road up to about a ton, people seem to class us in the same group as the saxos cause they think they can keep up with everything on the road cause they have a 16valve badge its all gud fun though, think thats why the 5 has a cult following now, people are starting to look after them and they are slowly loosing the reputation of unreliable but u av to remember its a 15yr old 1.4 pushrod engine running high power

Yup, power at the wheels to weight (did you know the scoob looses 100bhp to the wheels!)
I must admit it was a lot of fun catching people out (some real exotic stuff too) in the 5. My Scoob has 'over' 300bhp but for some reason the gtt felt faster . Even though I know from timings and dials that it aint. Probaly power delivery and thinner door skins.

Whats the RTOC? It was all GTTOC 2 yrs ago when I had mine.

I think there's a pic on their site after the next owner (DannyF)stripped it out to beat the uk record.

Hol, I think I know which car you was on about, Danny Fennel, DD autosports.

All the people who ran the GTTOC pulled out and the club went down the pan but Rachel Head saved it n started RTOC (renault turbo owners club) www.rtoc.org

Last time I saw Steve I was on the EVO pitch at Trax2000.

Never sure about that 300BHP claim though, especially after BBT's power output.

Whats everyone got now?

Yea i dont think the car ever proved 300 ponies but it was fast as f**k! DD has proved the most powerfull infront of a group of RTOC members with 354bhp but now claim to have 406bhp, which is over 100bhp per cylinder! Not bad for a 1400cc pushrod engine!
