I personally wouldn't buy one from anywhere. Mine lasted 2000 miles juddered from day one even with a new flywheel & was the most over rated waste of money Iv ever encountered. The supplier told me that it is normal & not covered by warranty.

It was not incorrectly fitted but a faulty friction plate as inspected by an engineer using a DTI. It's the supplier & manufacturer who are at fault. Do a search on here as i did, bit of an eye opener. I now run an AP as supplied by RCM & it's a much better product for slightly more money. I'm not starting a witch hunt here, just trying to prevent you wasting your money like I did.

Exedy pink box clutch here running for the last 3 months. No issues at all, no judder, no problem on a car jut shy of 400bhp. Thousands of other owners can't be wrong mate.

Sure, bad suppliers are out there but the product itself is not problematic when supplied and fitted correctly IMHO.

Lots if people think they are fine, but in my experience they are not & I won't ever buy another. Most are fine but if you get one that judders Exeddy don't believe it a warrantable issue because the car still drives. Had they of exchanged it I would have been happy & put it down to bad luck. My car has had 3 different clutches & the Exeddy was the only one which I was not happy with. You guys can all run what you like, & good luck to you. I'm not going to keep posting about it but I'll only be using AP from now on.

I've had an Exedy pink box clutch in my Spec C running over 400bhp without issue, no judder, no slipping and just as easy to use as the factory clutch.

If they did a single disc clutch to handle 500bhp then I'd have one of them as well.

What a strange attitude to demonstrate here.
I'd suggest you should be taking this up with the supplier, your fitter or both.
Thousands of happy owners can't be wrong!

Suggests to me either your fitter buggered up the installation or your supplier should have replaced the item FOC following a return for inspection. If not, why aren't you naming them on here - I would!

Chris - mate, the Exedy will be fine for you.
However, I would save your money and buy a Lateral Performance lightened Flywheel (if you buy the clutch from him as well Mark may do you a deal - always worth asking ?)
Go too light and you make it too easy to just stall the car.
On newage models it's the newage WRX's that will benefit more from this mod as their flywheels are just under 10.7kg.
The standard STI item is already just shy of 8.6kg.
The Lateral one I bought (below) is just over half the price of the Exedy and weighs in at 6.5kg, which means the car will go through the lower gears slightly quicker, but won't lose accleration too quickly either.

http://lateralperformance.co.uk/sect...or_6_speed_box

Lightened flywheels are definitely a personal preference - having read up on here and NASIOC the conclusion I reached was that too many people seemed to have fitted very light flywheels and didn't like the way the car drove.
Rich @ FB advised me not to go much lighter than 7kg for a road car and I think in that regard his advice was sound.

If you really want the suppliers name then PM me, I refuse to be part of any witch hunt. Whats strange about warning people about a bad experience, surely sharing advice & experiences is what a forum is about & I find it strange you feel the need to criticise me for it. Also why do Exeddy feel the need to advertise it as an Anti Judder clutch, when no other manufacturer uses these words as a selling point. If you read my posts properly you would see this was not a fitting issue & the supplier refused a replacement on the grounds of judder not being warranted by Exeddy.

In answer to the OPs original question as this is going off track now, I personally would only buy from a reputable supplier. Try Aztec ScoobyClinic or RCM as I have found these to be highly reputable.

Also ensure its a UK manufactured version if your car is UK spec as a lot of the time they are sourced abroad and can be problematic.. As Richard J says above, good reputable companies as mentioned above will always give that security.

RJ i understand what your saying about your experience I would lose faith in a product faced with the customer care that your talking about that you had to deal with,it's not nice.all of the products I buy for my wifes car and my car is from good advice from reputable dealers which there is a lot on here Alyn from AS performance Ian @ Godspeed etc...I have also had dealings with Olley Clark at RCM.AP clutchs are a high quality clutch but so are the EXEDY clutches I think most of your complaint lies with really bad customer service, had it been better you proberly would have a different opinion about EXEDY clutches,SJ.

This is my point exactly. Had the faulty part been replaced I would have put it down to bad luck, but it left me feeling that I would be an idiot to buy the same product again after such bad service. I don't doubt that lots of people think Exeddy clutches are a great product, but that is not my experience sadly.

I read your post and saw your mechanic said it was faulty (using a DTI?? - Dial Test Indicator?)
Now tbh I have no idea what one of those even is, but I'd venture if he screwed up the install then he's bound to say that anyway?

If you're satisfied he's definitely not at fault (fair enough, as we don't know who you used to fit it either) then I would be looking to get a refund from the supplier and if one was not forthcoming I'd have posted the fact that they screwed you on every forum to prevent aforementioned supplier doing the same to others rather than telling people to stay away from what's in my experience a perfectly good product!?
It's not like these are cheap kits - £350ish at least for the stage 1 pink box clutch kit IIRC!?
That's what I find strange as I wouldn't be willing to let that go (and couldn't afford to either!).

Like Chinese TD05's there are plenty of fake Exedy products on the market too and it sounds like this supplier needs to be taken to account for deliberately supplying faulty or fake goods.
I don't understand why you wouldn't want a part of that unless something else is in the mix here that we don't know about?

@Chris - mate tbh the car drives similar although needs just a few more revs to prevent stall! Takes a few days to get used to the new configuration, but behaviour is very similar to OEM clutch. No judder or any other behaviour of that sort.

Mr Noisy, there is no doubt that the clutch was faulty, but I I have thrown it away as it's no use to anyone. I had my arguments with the supplier at the time & have washed my hands of his services. I was not prepared to go to court as court costs would have exceeded what I was claiming for. To name & shame someone on an open forum is stupidity unless hard evidence is available as litigation often follows. As already stated my issue is more about how I was told there was no warranty for judder than the product itself, all manufacturers have a percentage of returns, it's how you look after the customer that really counts. I have now been left with a bad experience of the product & am therefore unable to recommend it, lets face it would you sing it's praises if you'd had my experience?

This is just one of several for those who refuse to believe an Exeddy has ever juddered, LOL.

In fairness I saw those threads and believe this was during a period where they had an issue with one of their suppliers - the thread is nearly 4 years old after all.
I think if you dig a bit more you see they fixed it later the same year but yeah I hear what you're saying, although for litigation mate I think its only MP's that attempt that

Read Alan Jefferys post in this thread. I don't think many people would argue that ET are one of the top specialists in the UK & know a lot more than most.

surely if exedy are advertising these clutches with 'anti-judder' friction plates if all isnt well on fitting there should be no problem on full refund?

You'd think so, but that's not the response I got. Some people seem to just accept it but I wasn't happy to drive my car like that.

Did the clutch that you bought say it comes with the anti judder plate or was it one of the older design ones??

It was sold to me as an anti judder pink box & it certainly came in a pink box, but it is possible I was miss sold an earlier kit. The supplier was a known specialist & was not bought off EBAY. I know the earlier kits were much worse but I don't think the problem has been totally cured. If you still want to buy one of these clutches the best advice I would give you is to get it supplied & fitted by a specialist then you can take any complaint up with them & they will have greater leverage with Exeddy. If you source your own clutch for a good deal & get it fitted elsewhere then you are more likely to get screwed if it judders.
