After the awsome Scoobycity track day on Saturday at RAF Bentwaters I've decided that I simply MUST get more time on track. However I also love my Scooby too much to do her any damage.
Sooooo.
I'm on the look out for a suitable car to buy. I don't wanna spend a fortune as I realise its gonna cost me an arm and a leg just on track fee's each month so I'm looking to spend under £2000 if poss.
I've already found a ready to race XR3I with a brand new body shell and complete spare car for £1500. So obviously race prepared cars are'nt alot of money to buy but I want to shop around first so if anyone has any website links or mags to buy with this type of thing for sale please let me know.
I just went out and got Autosport Mag but there was nothing cheap in there.
It does'nt have to be race prepared just quick, semi decent handling and cheap on initial outlay and parts.
Possible options so far are:
A beat up old Pug 205 1.9
or (dare I say it) An XR3I or XR2I
An unfinished kit car (westfield style)
Anyone think of some more options?
Cheers, Danny.

My neighbour used to run a 180bhp 205GTi at Knockhill alot. It's been sold now though, it was fitted with an Mi16 engine - same as a Citroen BX GTi 16v engine, oviously this was quite an impressive car. Stripped to nothing with a pair of buckets - very nice!
I dont think u'll get as a good a power to weight ratio with any of the other cars (bar the Westie). The 205 is also bound to have the best handling (again, bar the Westy).
I reckon you could get one on the track for less than a grand if you tried!
MOT failed 1.6 205GTi - £<300
MOT failed Citroen BX GTi 16v - £<250
Pair of seats, tyres, and some home-made fabrications (cage, exhaust etc) and your all the way!!
Westie would be the better option probably but to find a half decent one for under 2k?? Also, stay away from the Fords, they ain't galvanised like the Pug!

Cheers Mr Wood. I think 205 sounds the best bet so far.
Jon - Nice Idea but replacement turbos must be expensive now they're getting older.

Hi Bob, We've temparaly taken Scoobycity down due to a possible copywright issue with Greenways. It should all be resolved by mid-week. The forum and chatroom are still up though.
Cheers Flat 4x4... I'm on my way to the for sale section.

Friend of mine has a Nova.
2.0L engine transplant with uprated gearbox.
Straight thru exhaust.
Just had a complete respray.
Few extras...strut brace n stuff.
If you're at all interested, let me know and i'll get the low-down for you.
AFAIK, he's looking for something around £1500 (almost as fast as my scoob in a straight line)

Thanks guys. Both of the above sound good but I think I'd rather give £500 for a car that I don't have to worry about thrashing the s**t out of.
Either that or give alot more for something seriously awsome like a Westy.
But keep em coming...

Funny Big Lee should mention the Golf as that's what my neighbour's running now instead of the Pug. It was me that told Mr Wood to write the above - i work with him!
He uses 8v engines in his golf as they have more low-down torque, this is apparently enough to get ahead of the 16 valvers! As i said though, go with the Pug, 180bhp in a car that weighs little more than a tin of sardines CANNOT be argued with!! All for less than a grand too......infact, i might build one myself!!

Try and pick up a Charade GTti. Weighs nothing and has 100bhp as standard and can easilly be tweaked to 150-160bhp and will be much quicker than a Scoob. I know I've been in one and was amazed and ended up buying one.
Bought mine for £600 ! Needs a few bits doing like a new head gasket but very tunable and engine is very very strong.

still think the R5 is the best bet,you can pick turbos up for £60 and there is no way you are going to get 150bhp good handling and turbo fun for the same money.
yes the 205 is a good car but the 5 is a lot faster and on a short track you will keep with the big boys too
