They have 4 little brackets that screw on under the black trim strips that run down the roof on either side. Got them on mine and the roof rack to go with it. Never used it and have not had the courage to try removing the brackets incase the clips on the trim strips break!

Here's one 
These are roof bars rather than a roof rack, but would do the job for surf boards.
Not planning on selling though as I found them invaluable when taking the kids on holiday. Got them online cheap as they were a returned order so classed as seconds, but don't ask me where
