I am looking for the best spec laptop PC i can get at not a huge amount of money. It's going to be used for running low spec software so doesnt have to be a PIII etc but it must have a CDROM and Floppy drive plus a Modem card with working serial port. It must have a good quality batery and charger/mains adaptor. I dont want something that dies 5 minutes after losing mains power!

Just let me know whats available with cost and i'll see how that compairs to what i can buy from the usual market place.

I need to buy within the next 2 weeks and have £ waiting.

I have one, but I'm in 2 minds whether to sell it or not. Here are the specs:

2 years old
complete with mains charger and battery (this was replaced about 9 months ago under warranty, and in fact half of the mainboard was replaced, too)

internal sound & stereo speakers
PCMCIA slot + network card
HPA Screen
Win98 licenced software
Carrying bag

Now, I don't know what its worth, but I'm not going to let it go for next to nothing. You probably know more than me, so maybe email me with an offer? Either that or do you have any decent bits for the car that you'd like to trade / either part ex or full ex.

You might want to ask Mattski2 (uploader guy) i seem to remeber he was selling one a few weeks back and didn't have much interest then.

Thanks Ian. i sent him a mail, bit pricey for me and it needs a new battery that are £100 each. Not had a response yet though.

Someone must have a laptop going spare at not tonnes of dosh, it doesnt have to be a very high spec as i just want it to run some simple timing software.

bought a toshiba satelite pro Pentium 166 with 12.1 screen, CDROM, Floppy, 32MB, Win98, IR port, Serial, 56K PCMCIA card modem etc. Carry case, charger, 2 hr batery blah blah....
