They are still pretty cheap, but if i did it again I wouldnt bother with the 2.5
Firstly quite a few blown up in the country already
Second, you need to look at remapping etc and end up spending more money
Third, once you do get a nice power, you end up eating through your gearbox! lol
If i was to do it again - 2.0 with uprated internals. Its cheaper and people have good results
If you want a bit more power, then 2.33
2.5 ground is still a bit unexplored

Frank, I'm sorry, but I don't understand your reasoning. Engines don't just fail for no reason. Engines generally blow up for 3 reasons, if we assume nothing is "faulty". Either the engine components are being pushed beyond their limits, and or it hasn't been built, or mapped correctly. With regard to mapping costs, that applies no more to a modified 2.5lt, than a modified 2.0lt. The only reason the 2.5lt can break a gearbox more easily than a 2.0lt, is because it can be mapped to produce far more torque. It can also be mapped so that it's FAR more drivable than a 2.0lt low down, but peak torque remains sensible, until the owner decides they want more, and up rates the gearbox, but isn't that the same with modified 2.0lt ???? There's nothing wrong with the 2.5lt, just the way they are put together. Whether people prefer a 2.5lt, over a 2.0lt, or visa versa, will be personal preference, but I can't think of anything to dislike about the 2.5lt, and the extra drivability. Mark.
