wouldnt bother! sell it and buy another!

Will be cheaper and a proper turbo!

It will be more to insure than a turbo aswell as it will be classes as a modified car!

i have checked different things out and i think i am happy that it can be done properly.

i have looked at freds where the conversion hasnt gone well and those that have. if the mechanic has the skill then i dont see what the problem is.

if i had brought a 2001 cashmere yello turbo 2 years ago it would have cost me 10k more than what it did, this way makes much more sense.
i have found someone who can do the conversion for me

Sara, would an other option be to sell yours as it is, buy a turbo that you like & get it re-sprayed cashmere yellow? Could work out a fair bit cheaper imho.

no, that would turn out a lot more expensive imo. it will be between 1 and 2000 for a respray, plus the turbo would be a lot older than my car, mine is only 4 years old. and i will only be without my car for a max of 2 weeks.

all i have to do is sit back and do nothing

But the parts you are after will prob be older than the car??? You could always stick with the colour you by the turbo in (not a good suggestion for you SS I know ) and the insurance will be easier to get I recon. Have you asked ref your car & insuring it when converted?

Only trying to help,

Simon

i will be without the car for 2 weeks max!!

the car i use for the parts will hopefully be an '01

as for the insurance...

someone else on her said they did a conversion and the insurance came under a kit car insurance and was cheeper than if they had bought a turbo and insurance

i honestly wouldn't bother, its just not worth doing, insuring it will always be a problem and even selling it once its done, just sell it and buy a turbo

Surely the number one rule of modifying a car is, don’t try and make something you can get of the shelf…

Your asking people to donate all the parts to you? So are you planning on just paying the labour? You will never get all the parts for free…. Bats-Wrx wants £2800 for a MY93 (nothing wrong with that) you want all your parts to be sourced from a MY01.. for free? How much do you think a re-spray will cost you?

firstly the respray...i dont need a respray just because i am converting from a sport to a turbo. but yes, i will get a respray at a later date because i want to

as for donating parts it is a tongue in cheek request asking for spares that people might have that i need that they dont mind getting rid of, ive given bits and pieces away

i am trying to source an 00-01 model that i can buy for the bulk of the parts, the rest i will buy, beg and borrow, of course i am going to pay for the labour. i am having it done properly and that costs money

i dont want a different car...this will be the one i drive with a turbo

hokey kokey

Admittedly I know nothing about sports, but wouldn't a turbo conversion to your existing engine be cheaper and easier?

Do not, under any circumstances try and get a spray job for under £4k as it will be naff...

I admire your courage, but bank on more than two weeks as the unexpected WILL happen. I'd be more tempted to get something written off that you can hear running - at least you know everything's there!!

I changed the engine in my 205 GTi (1.9 8v to 1.9 16v) and the whole process took me 18 months

ahhh thanks

if i get too many 4 pots then they are yours
thanks for helping out, much appreciated

i am realistic in that i know i cannot find all the parts i need by asking for them to be donated, but i thought , what the hell, if someone has got something that they dont need they might be grateful to give it to a good home

i wonder if anyone has got a spare engine kicking about
