For an idea I'm working on. Either free or very cheap?

Local wheel refurbisher not interested!

Well, as you're wanting to buy something unsaleable, I'm sure they woulnd't charge much, w*nker or not.

You just have to deal at their level.....simple really. Usual bartering rules apply.

Yes, but with the nice price of aluminium alloy at the moment...they'll probably want to keep hold of them.

Mind IIRC an alloy engine block is worth about £20-25 in metal so they should be happy to deal with £5 per wheel.

One thing you should take into account though, At my former employers (stainless steel fabrications), I used to deal with the local scrap merchant quite often, and he told me a few 'tricks of the trade'. All scrap is bought & sold by weight, if the price of scrap (especially ally & non ferrous) is high, it means that the stuff is comparatively scarce. So generally the buyer is keener to aquire it, and tends to pay less attention to what is in the skip with the stuff he wants, therefore a scrap dealer can often get away with throwing wheel AND tyre into the skip, thus trebling the saleable weight so the dealer is probably less keen to part than you might think.
I'd say that ATM given the price of recylced ally you are probably going to be paying nearer £25 per rim.

I've got 4 17" Fox 6 alloys off my old Corrado that I haven't managed to sell. 2 slightly buckled and one heavily but all repairable, but at that scrap price I may be paying a visit next week. Never thought of that, ta

I didn't say that's what he'd PAY you, I said that's what he'd CHARGE you.

Are you aware of the basic rule of capitalism - Sell something for more than you pay for it

PS. Back on topic, I've got 7 XR4x4 rims (6x14 7 spokes) that you can have, if you come up & get them
