Maf sensor my95
#5
Dont mean to suggest the seemingly obvious to some.......but not all! I work on these cars for a living and have never had the need to replace either an early maf sensor or an idle control valve! Try cleaning the hot wire with a spray solvent such as brake cleaner or carb cleaner. Then dry the wire with gentle compressed air. This should cure your problem and save some cash!

Gareth - how long have you worked on these cars?
Mafs seem to go quite commonly on these cars as found out alot in technical forum. Quite a few mechanics on there have suggested cleaning but as Krade says, it doesnt last long so a replacement MAF is needed.
More common for the pre 96 scoobs to have their MAF go compared to the newer ones

Induction kit isnt as bad on the old ones Maf. Ive ran mine for over a year and had no problems. Customer cars have ran it over years with no problems.
Its the later one that has the problems mate. The earlier ones are fine

well the cleaning idea hasnt really worked to well. Ran like a pig idleing at 2.3k revs and then it had a fit and the revs varied from 1.7k to 2.5k as if you were reving at the lights. Then it chucked up a check engine light.
Left it till this morning and reset the ecu after a bit of a stuttery start it seems to be running about the same as before I cleaned it.
Still need a maf
