BTW, you might want to double-check what you are supposed to be asking for. The STi version 4 is an MY98 car, while the MY97 is the version 3, if you see what I mean.

Might also be worth finding out whether the OE ECU will still slot straight back into the car now it's had the aftermarket ECU and boost controller in it. Were the wiring looms modified to accept the Apexi?

If the importer is handling it, leave it to him.

FWIW if car is an MY97, there's no way it can be an STI4. If, however, it was registered in 1997, it could be a 3 or a 4. Are you talking about year of registration or MY here?

Imprezas (and cars in general) are generally referred to by their model year (hence MYxx appearing everywhere). The new model year usually goes into production in the previous September/October, so it is indeed possible for an MY98 car to have been registered in late 1997.

Get the idea? For future reference, if you ask a question about your car here, nobody will care when it was registered, the model year is the important thing.

BTW, if it does turn out to be an STi version 3 you're after, there's one being broken in the For Sale forum.

....can get a STi4 Type R standard 1997 3 socket ECU.

2nd hand.

Apparently, the Apexi ECU on the car will not pass the sva, so it needs a standard one, so i'm DESPERATE to foind one.

does it have to be an ECU off a type r or can it just be off a wrx sti?

any help...VERY much appreciated

Uh-oh, not again...

You'd need one off an STi. Try the usual suspects - Grade A Subaru, Central Subaru, Town End Garage, Glenburgie etc. etc.

Why won't it pass with the Apexi on, and why is it you sorting this out and not the importer?

no no no...yjr Importer is sorting it out for me, he's a good guy, it's just Town end garage were supposed to hae delivered him a standard ecu by friday and it has still not arrived.

I'm just trying to speed things along by looking for one myself.

so, if the car is a 1997, there is no way it can be a sti 4??

It certainly could be a very early 4 then, but in the interests of avoidance of doubt, suggest you get the applied model code or VIN number and check it against the list here.
