Scoobysport or Prodrive back box
#2
Depends what you prefer.
If I read your right and just want the backbox ? -
- Scoobysport excellent but some people have changed as too loud.
- Prodrive backbox (round pipe) quieter and whooshier but still with character.
I picked up the latter used for £150 (from a PPP car) but they do the oval pipe as well - don't know if any different in sound.
Don't expect much extra power from the Prodrive - I bought it for looks and a little extra noise under power but still quiet when cruising. Power Engineering said about another 5bhp - Scoobysport would be a lot more I guess.

I personally prefer the sound and looks of the Prodrive back box. Had one on my old MY00 and recently had one fitted to the STI7.
I live just outside Bridgend, so if you want a listen let me know.
Cheers

Here's my STI backbox - on an MY95...
Nicer lower 'rumble' - not too intrusive. Haven't had it dyno'd, but combined with my new ITG should have slighter more geegees!!!
Cost? About £75ish here on ScoobyNet!!
Hope this helps

Ian, so you got an RB5 now then! You probably wont remember me but i bought some discs and pads from you for my dark aubergine escort gti a few years ago. I think you bought a black M3 convertible shortly after i bought my M3 Evo (estoril blue one). I got converted to the dark side though and just had to get a scooby. Yours is the other RB5 i've been told about then crusing bridgend! I've had mine 4 months now and i'm loving it. Have to arrange a meet soon and you can see my Prodrive (oval type) backbox. I've heard the round ones too and the ovals are much better sounding.
Drop me an e-mail if you like and i'll pop round. Only live like 2 mins away from you!

Ian,
I've got an STI one on my RB5. It's very quiet compared to the likes of Scoobysport, but it does get rid of those daft looking pea shooters.
I can post some pics of my car if you want.
I've just fitted a TSL de-cat downpipe and centre which has changed the noise of the STI Backbox. Now I get a nice deep burble, but it's still not as loud as other backboxes.
Stefan
Forgot to add that if you're listening to someone elses car go for a drive and sit in the back seat - that's where you'll get complaints if it's too noisy.
After going for a blast with some of the Scottish lads I had a splitting headache from a car with a Magnex 6x4 fitted.
