It has 2 voltage outputs that are used for main CAL and traction CAL (so needs 2 spare inputs on the ECU). No LC or ALS on/off.
Toucan can change CAL and has ALS on/off via CANbus (in most installs) so no inputs used. LC on/off isn't generally needed as it's self-arming, but if you do want it Toucan can do this using 1 ECU input.
The Bluetooth setup also doesn't remember the last CAL you selected when you power cycle it all.
My own opinion is that the Bluetooth and phone app is great for when you want an occasional look at data, but for a permanent install, in place of traditional gauges, Toucan's the right choice.
It's also a matter of personal preference of course (just like whether you go for traditional gauges).

for example:
Cal 1 - low boost - no als
Cal 2 - low boost - als on
Cal 3 - med boost - no als
Cal 4 - med boost - als on
Cal 5 - hi boost - no als
Cal 6 - hi boost - als on
as stated LC can be set to engage automatically, or have a physical switch.

Ive been looking out for one for the last few months, 2 have popped up in that time and were sold straight away.
Im currently thinking of more reasons to give the Mrs why a new Toucan to go in the car i hardly drive and that she wont get in, would be a wiser purchase than the new cooker and fridge i sort of promised her this Christmas lol.
If Tim had of included the Toucan in the recent group buy, I would of had a much stronger case as we all love a bargain

In short there an awesome investment, obviously you have full visability of the cars sensors and set up, and lockable to a cal too should you take it for valet (no boost and 4k limit?!)
The way I would look at explaining it to the missus - you NEED to see that all the components on the car are working right, and by adding a toucan you can do. also factor the cost of repair or even replacement should something go pop because you didn't have a toucan.... a new cookers far cheaper than a full engine build

Im already sold Dan, I have a new modded centre console sitting in the lounge just waiting for a toucan to be added to it. She knows the car wont be getting much use for a few months and thats where im struggling to justify it lol.
The first reason i gave her was "because race car" but it was just lost in translation and she just didnt get it
