Just accept that problems happen, you've got an unknown fault which might be a relatively cheap repair and you now want to sell the car?
Get a generic OBD II reader on it and see what happens, I had to have my engine rebuilt but I kept it and spent the money.
Performance motoring costs money and gives you grey hairs, but it's worth it and better in an Subaru than a Vauxhall.

it one problem after another. My Astra was over 300bhp(standard is 190) not one problem, this scooby i have is standard and i am having problem after problem. List of problems i have is knocking when driving and get alot louder when i slow down to stand still. Another noise i have sounds like super charger, engine managment light on, rear shocks are knocking and i have lots movement in gears when driving, mostly in 4th and 6th.
I thought i had a gem, test drive was lovely, full main dealer history, just over 71K on the clock.
4 months later the car a nightmare.

Phil,
Did you have any knowledge of Scoobs before you bought it?
Was it bought from a Dealer?
Is the person you bought it off local?
Are you running it on decent fuel?
Is it standard?
As Ty said you need to have a code reader plugged into the OBD port to see what is going on (Infected is offering his help).
The shock knock is a know and very common fault.
The engine knock may be something bigger and may cost a lot and may be related to the CEL.

I have good knowledge of cars(i work for Vauxall Parts) but not huge amount of knowlegde of subaru,
I bought it off a dealer in bristol in november. I have code reader in work so i am going plug her in dinner time(huge thanks to infected great guy!!)
Rear shock i can deal with for now. cars runs on shell V power and 100% standard
Wried thing is the knock not coming from the engine, rev her and there no noise from her, it when the car in motion and soon start slow down it knocks it **** off, feel it though the car.

If honest a car is a car, id go thru the same procedure for finding a issue if it was a ford, Vauxhall or Subaru, Im never sure why people think these are complicated tbh,
If its road noise then you need a car park to do some lock to lock circles to rule out CV joints etc, like any car.

It sounds like you have bought a 'pup' and everything has gone wrong during your ownership, even with a full main dealer history you can't tell how it was driven/abused by the previous owner(s).
The knocking rear suspension struts are a wear and tear item especially on an Impreza, plus don't forget you have an 11 year old car which will have components failing a lot more regularly due to age related failure.

Phil, make sure you do a ecu reset after reading the codes, if you still want to pop up I can plug the monitor in and you will see alot more values and what's going on with the management, what the advance multiplier is doing, airflow voltage etc,
Knocking rear shocks is a pretty simple fix bud with the nipple mod, and pretty straight forward to pull apart.
Are you using the car now? If so and you get 5 mins, pop up even if you ain't got a management light on, we will still plug it in and see what the cars doing under load on the move with the values from the monitor, can have a listen to the noise your experiencing at the same time then.

You don't need money to come see me pal more than willing to help anybody out in the same position, as said previously I would rather help with things I know as there is going to be a time where I need help or advice and would like to think people would do the same for me
Yes you can get the car in the air with wheels off the ground and start it, probably the best way to source the noise your hearing If you think its transmission related, that's how I pinpointed the problems with my diff as i thought i may have had bearings on the way, you can run it through the gears to see if its more prominent in a certain gear then, just don't be going nuts with the loud pedal

right well had the car in the air with someone driving, I had Vauxhall master tech with me to give me a hand and sounds like the noise is coming from the gearbox were the shaft goes into the gearbox, hell of a noise in that area to say I am gutted is an understatement
