Question Changing the timing belt

As Above really

My car has coverd 40k now, service book says timing belt needs changing at 50k or 60 months,

But the belt looks brand new does this realy need to be changed this time.. if it was showing signs of wear I could understand, or is it me just being tight..

How much is the going price for this work now days.

Take the cambelt off and thoroughly inspect it. Then while youve got it off put a new one back on instead

appologies . Mate if your ride is that white hawk eye i see under your name i would definatley be changing it. I dread cambelt changes. unavoidably expensive or leave it and truly pay the price.

Anyhow hope it doesnt set you back too much.

Lee, don't risk it get it done as soon as possible.

For the peace of mind and as it's an essential component I would get it done plus get the tensioner, rollers and bearings checked if not changed once the belt is being changed.

There are plenty of good places to go Keith Price (not as expensive as you think), Indigo GT and Three Arches are not too far from you either.

From my personal experience having nearly had a timing belt fail on me I would hate to think of having to finance another engine rebuild.

Aren't I always?

Seriously though well worth doing at least you have peace of mind rather than wondering what would happen if?

I know Antony also sells the very tasty Cosworth belt and guide as well, although a standard Gates or Subaru belt will be just as good but not look as pretty.

Andy at Ace Performance fitted a new Gates belt kit last year for me and included the tensioner and idlers as well.
Also changed all the other belts with Gates items at the same time while it was all apart.
My old belts also were like new but as said not worth taking the chance.

Full and part kits are available from Import car parts at reasonable prices and they also sell all the Cosworth parts as well if that's of interest to you.

I believe Gates make the belts for Cosworth who then rebrand them as Cosworth items.

Changed mine at about 45k and went down the route Kev suggested sourcing my own parts from import car parts, I went with the full kit just to be on the safe side to be honest. Its not a speacialist job and is pretty simple for an experienced mechanic as long as you have one you can trust so you don't need to spend the earth on labour. As far as I can recall even with the full kit it cost me just under £300 which is pretty reasonable so worth a thought if you don't fancy spending big bucks on it
