Default Engine temperature question

Hi guys, i wonder if anybody could help me

I renewed my radiator last autumn and refilled with coolant and water mix,
i bled the system properly and there are no leaks.

The thing is i can't remember where on the engine temperature gauge the needle setled when fully warmed up.

I know that they're not that accurate but mine settles above the half way line, it doesn't get any hotter unless i leave it standing and the fans come on when it reaches around three quarters but i can't remember if the needle was below the half line before the coolant change.

Where does your needle settle when warmed up ?

Mine sits just above the 1/4 marker and only goes up very slightly even when giving the car 'the beans'.

This is what i seem to remember before my rad change but i couldn't be sure.
There's no air in the system as i keep checking because of this uncertanty.

I think i'd better change the fluid again for one that is complete rather than adding water to the mix.

Any ideas on what's preferable ?

I don't think changing the anti freeze mix would really change things, as when I was initially running in my engine it was on neat water and even when anti freeze was put in it didn't make a difference.

The additives in the coolant mix are mainly for not freezinfg (obviously) and to stop aluminium components from corroding.

It sounds like you have another issue.

Sorry Marc I wasn't getting at it being a HG problem, I'd be more suspicious of the thermostat or the radiator itself.

I hope it's the Stat for you Mate - lesser of all evils. I got an uprated High Flow Stat from Advanced Automotive - a reasonable 16 quid delivered I think it was - have a check on the site
