Bit of a long shot......
Hey folks,
I have as my weekend off roading toy and olde F -Reg Toyota Hilux (similar to the one they tried to kill on top gear, but slightly newer facelift model, same shape all the way up to the R Reg i think), anyway last year she gave up the gun after a good few years of abuse and the engine bottom end went. Going on my mates advice (who does alot with these, landrovers etc etc) im looking to change the engine for prefferably a 2.4 td that were found on the old Landcruisers, believe the 3.0 fits snug aswell.
APparently Daihatsu 2.8's and Trooper engines also fit, but the exhaust is on the wrong side so obviously costing more labour to make fit.
As per title, bit of a long shot but was wondering if any of you would happen to know of one of these engines, apparently there was no end of them around back 18months ago but now seem to be a bit harder to get holt of, been to see a couple but wernt any good (lack of compression, smoking etc..)??
Unfortunately existing is irreparable due to another mate pulling everything apart and chucking it all in the tub at back with various bits and pieces missing!
Any help would be appreciated,
Cheers folks
Rob

Cheers jimbob as said would prefer the Toyota engine as it would be a pretty much straight fit and their bombproof nature (except for mine!!) Daihatsu seemed to be quite flat, the ones ive driven anyway!, be nice to have a 3.0 td!
Thanx
