Question Steering wheel hub

Im going to change my steering wheel and hub next week.

In order to change the hub is it only the central bolt i need to undo?
Or are there othe hidden bolds/clips?

I've not had a scooby one apart but all the others I've seen have had a large spring loaded nut on a splined shaft.Tht nut might have locking tabs and wires for the horn. If you remove remember to mark the centre of the wheel otherwise you will have a he'll of a job getting the new wheel to line up.

On my old MY99 Classic it was just a central nut. The horn/airbag unit had to come off first and there were two torx screws either side that had to be loosened in order to free the horn/airbag cover. I'm sure yours will be different though Calvin, good luck

Oh and if the wheel hasn't been off before it may need a tap or two from behind to free it on the splines.

Classic with no airbag? If so wip the centre off and undo the nut inside which is just a nylok nut. Just need to pull, wiggle and swear to get it off the splines. It may need a little persuasion.

Removed a steering wheel on old wrx.
The thing would just not come off, even with 2 of us pulling at full strength.
Then got told a tip and it came straight off.
1 person sits on drivers seat pulling on wheel (carefull not to brain yourself when it comes off)
A 2nd person sits on back seat behind drivers seat with a long pole(preferbly metal) and while the other person is pulling, put the end of the pole on the centre bolt and tap it hard with a hammer.
Hey presto..its off and your mate has a bloody nose.....

You used to be able to buy half this set for c.£14. Just get a couple of longer locating bolts from B&Q with nuts for spacers and it threads into the boss and the thrust bolt centres on the steering bolt (remove nut obviously) pops the wheel off in seconds. I did someones wheel who had tried everything from iron bars to handstands, pmsl ! It made a hell of a pop when it released, nothing else would have moved it.

Steering Wheel & Harmonic Balancer Puller Set 18pc PS977: Amazon.co.uk: DIY & Tools

I love my snap off steering wheel. Mine is a D1Spec, although for twice the money you can get a slimmer fitting NGK IIRC. I bought a flat dish wheel to compensate for the move forward, but the driving position is 100% better. If you want OEM reach go with the NGK and a flat wheel. Personally I would try the slightly further forward wheel, you can tuck your elbows into your body and it feels great.

Apologises for whoring these pics, I have posted them quite recently.

On this picture you can see where the locating bolts go, one either side of the column bolt. You can also see when the tip of the thrust bolt would push onto the column bolt.

Good security device as well, have you any links to the boss you have there by chance... I'm interested in looking into it but still finding the subject a little confusing

Good news on the hub front, when I took my Classic JDM's wheel off it was fairly straight forward as I remember (no air bag) Nardi type wheel, I didn't go for a snap off but did get two motorsport buttons on little stalks that popped up from the hub, wired them into the horn, they were cool from Demon Tweekes as I remember, not sure if they would be good for snap off though But they looked good, and an idea

What happens to the horn? Does it still connect to the steering wheel?

Yeah you leave the horn push button there - it's redundant then, you can still press it but nothing happens and the wiring connects to the small red buttons on the bracket, they do either a double bracket with two buttons or you can get right or left handed single button/bracket(s) that work in the same way, you can use both thumbs with the double one then, that's the one I had, I thought they were great but that's me !! pretend you got nitrous then

On the snap off you still have a push button, the horn wire goes into the hub that stays with the boss and the steering wheel/hub have connections which touch when the wheel is reattached.

It would I think, the sparco one will work like a spacer with a horn live spade, just don't connect the push button.

If you mean that the wheel will be connected via the wiring - then a tidy quick snap on/off electrical connector would help you separate the wheel from the hub and the horn wires if I remeber I've seen some rally cars with snap offs that have that "old headphone" curly lead attached for some sort of connection, again a couple of cleverly placed connectors should see you OK

My centre horn push worked fine with the snapoff, the wheel hub has contacts in a complete circle so no matter where the wheel is you always have contact.A centre horn push is much neater IMO.
