Default Decat downpipe and lambda fix ??

Hi All - anyone put a decat downpipe on with a CEL fix for the D/P only not the uppipe.

Got to fit D/P soon and the lambda hole is bunged - so what can I do with the sensor now - do I bypass it with a resistor or live with any CEL's or what have you done to help with this.........remap I know but not quite yet.

Take the downpipe to Charlie @ Prospeed in Cardiff and get him to manufacture/make a new sensor hole in the pipe.

I can probably drop it off and pick it up for you if it helps you out.

drill a hole with a cone cutter, and weld a boss kit on to it, like a large nut so sensor can be fitted properly.

That would work - I've got a cone cutter too, problem is how do I know how deep the sensor needs to go in, i.e. how thick a nut should I use

id weld the boss kit in kinda flush so u kno the sensor is in well, dont think it really matter on depth, exhaust gases gotta travel past it. im sure with a bit of common sense tho looking at the sensor u can work out best postition.

Yeah that should work out fine, I havn't actually seen the make up of the sensor yet as it's still plugged in - but as you say it will become apparent when all out - some CEL fix's I saw on ebay were like extensions to the OE lambda mount - which kept the sensor from the flow of the gas, not sure how they work

yeh, id do it right, one should be there in right place. if it doesnt do its job it could affect your fueling as ecu wont get true reading and over or under fuel.
and for the sake of a hole and nut or a proper kit i dont feel its worth messing about.

if my welder worked id av sorted it for u. only up rd in merthyr.

Many thanks for the time you took getting that up for me

I have just heard from a well known mapper who I went to advice about the sensor issue and had good news on the one fitted to my exhaust

The sensor hole by the bellmouth (which had been bunged) is able to take the sensor from further down the pipe where the newage one is situated, so I can just "un-bung" and move it up

My new concern now is the size of the sensor's "nut" and that it matches the hole

Here's hoping it's not going to surprise me !! It was hard enough getting the bung out, plenty of release oil went in it !!

I'm guessing this is down to access if trying to undo bolts from above. However, I would have thought that you tackle downpipe removal from under the car, therefore why remove the TMIC? Just my 2p until someone who has actually removed a downpipe chips in

AFAIK yes the TMIC does need to come off as it has on both occasions when Prospeed did my downpipes on the Hawkeye and S202 for access reasons , if you are going to fit an STi TMIC it would certainly seem like the right time to do it. (and change the hoses for Samco which I happen to have )

That seems lika a plan then - got the TMIC now(thanks to Mervil) so it would be good planning to em both - Ty you should sell windows You got sales pitch like Merv has are you fitting the filter before you go over the bridge I got the Prodrive silicone Y pipe but don't know which to use now, the STi TMIC has a "hard" pipe and sili turbo inlet I think that's where it should go

Junk the Prodrive Y pipe as it is only for the WRX I believe, fit a nice shiny new red Samco set that I can sell you , I will try and pop in tomorrow night to pick up the filter.

I have been busy at work so my social life is out of the window this week , yes my sales pitch is straight and direct ( and do you still want the roof spoiler while I am at it).

No ! is it for the WRX only - or is that sales patter Isn't the hard pipe a good one that's on it already then - that's not going to collapse is it

Filters here mate - I'll be here all nights after 5pm you won't get much sense out of the "girls" if you come before that - but they could hand it over to you if before 5

You don't replace the hard pipe but the hose that connects the two top sections to the bottom pipe , plus the kit also comes with a new DV hose and the hose which takes the boost into the engine.

Of course it comes in lovely red with the Samco logos, would look really good on your car and a bit of engine dressing.
