Default ECU query...........

Hi Guys - I'm def not sure on ECU's, if for instance I can find an '02 JDM Sti ECU will it plug and play - so to speak in my WRX JDM or am I better off getting the standard ECU re-mapped later on after a couple more mods (IK and Downpipe) or will I need a new ECU altogether, any ideas greatly appreciated........Si.

im sure they can be swapped provided you have the software to rewrite the ecu imobiliser.

however best bet would be to remap your ecu. u know you will get the most out of it then, and because you will have to get the sti one mapped anyway to suit your car.

Simon you are better off getting your existing ecu remapped as this will give better performance than an STi ecu.

I am going up to Bob Rawle in October if you want to come up and see the results and the processes involved.

Defo better off getting urs re-mapped, the sti has a different turbo and AVCS heads so won't be right for your car without being mapped to your mods

Yeah Ian it is a 4 speed - that was also in my mind, as the 02 Sti's are 6 speeders, with upgrading the standard ECU - do you know if an Ecutek or similar will give better results or is that purely software, as opposed to hardware

Thanks MrD n Turbodean - never done any remapping in any of my car's before and it's a minefield, uprate the existing ECU would be the best way by the looks of it and I'd forgotten about the imobiliser side of it

active value control system! allows the cam shaft to advance or retard cam timing, on the fly. It does this through a series of oil pressure switches and solenoids

not sure what cars though

AVCS is the heads not the turbo, it's subaru's version of VVTI/VTEC as far as i'm aware its only on newage STI's.
Don't know much about WRX Auto's, but WRX's tend to have a TD04 turbo where as the STI7 had a VF30.
