Default Gearbox out - upgrades?

Hi...

My 5th gear doesn't like to stay in gear and pops out every now and again...

Will have to take out gearbox to investigate.... while its out is there anything worth upgrading?

I would certainly drop a P1 5th in there.... if you drop Kev (kjd mk1) a line he will tell you what he thinks of the mod as he recently had it done.
From a passengers perpective it has transformed his type-r into something that will comfortably eat motorway miles up without reving the hell out of it.

Maybe the clutch would be worth considering as well but it's all according to your present milage and usage etc.

Longer 5th (P1 5th) sounds like a very good idea!... I usually do 60mph on motorways, as that is dead on 3k revs lol.... 70mph would be around 4k revs-ish...

All the rest of the gears will stay the same right?... as I like it how they are now

any ideas on where to source one of these longer 5th's from?

Yes everything else stay's the same no diffence there at all, it will stop that excessive reving on a motorway run for sure.

Are you taking the box out yourself ?

No way... not doing it myself.... wouldn't know where to start.. let alone finish lol

.. i contacted Dave Coe about it popping out.... he says 4hours labour to take box out and an hour to investigate the issue.... labour at £50 p/hr + VAT

sounds like its gonna be an expensive job grrrr......

anyone know where i can source a P1 5th from?... are UK impreza 5th's the same?...

Ace Motorsport use a engineer to rebuild all there transmissions who is well sought after in the motorsport industry, and there costs are second to none, gets my vote, my road and race car spends all my money there, and as both cars have and will spend many hours at the ring I cant afford any half meassures, but as they say the choice is yours..

I had the same problem on my MY00 years ago, apparently it's a simple solution if you catch it in the early stages, if, like me, you waited ages then the box with give up the ghost!! When my box was taken apart, there was metal shavings everywhere inside sourced a second hand box then!! Good luck buddy
