HOLY ****!! The new car is an animal :-)
Picked up the new car today and f**k me, what a completely different beast to my wrx!!!
First impressions:-
It just takes off in every gear and eats up the tarmac - total animal. My wrx is quick but this is different, more bhp and less weight, plus the twin scroll turbo which has a completely different characteristic to the TD04 unit. The TD04 spools very quickly so it's straight on boost, delivering torque early through to ~6000+ rpm. With the twin scroll there's a hint of lag low down in the revs, then an almighty audible whoooosh as it winds up and the torque kicks in, which it maintains all the way to 8000 rpm - fookin amazing.
The gearbox and gearing is completely different, I've never driven a 6-speed box before plus the gear ratios are totally different, so that's something to get used to. First gear kind of passes you by, second takes you to 60 in sub-5 seconds in my estimatation. 3rd and 4th gears are just awesome because they pull like 1st and 2nd but don't run out of gearing, taking you well into license-losing territory. Then 5th, which you'd expect to be tame - no, it's actually the gear that will probably get me points on my license. Sooooo easy to break the national speed limit without even trying, no matter where you start in the rev range it just picks up and punches you forward.
6th is another new experience. I planted my foot into the carpet in 6th @ 2500 rpm, expecting not much to happen for 500-1000 rpm's. However as soon as the twin scroll had fired up the car just leapt forward and kept going...and going.....and going to xxx mph I thought the 6th gear on cars was for cruising and achieving good fuel consumption
With the coilovers and the Perrin 25mm rear sway bar kit plus drop links, it takes some getting used to mild oversteer as well - the turn-in is incredible, even at speed.
It's a harsher ride than the wrx, more than I expected but not too much to live with. You can tell the car is built to go round bends, quickly. It's just superb and hats off to Rich, the previous owner, for his selection of handling mods because they work brilliantly.
The car is so light that it can be thrown about with confidence, with the steering being totally precise and assured. Had a few wobbly moments planting the power early in a bend like I'm used to in the wrx, only to realise that the delivery is much more aggressive and much more immediate - came close to some real sideways action (even on roads I know)! Awesome car.
All-in-all, the best car that I've ever owed by a country mile. I'm so please I decided to go for broke and buy a Spec C instead of a modded Type-UK - it just feels special, different........and FU**ING QUICK

well done Rich, you made the right choice
You've even got some good weather to give her some spit and polish, just stop using a brilo pad and buy yourself a wash mit and a couple of buckets

I overtook a tractor today and he pushed me wide as I went past. I had my foot burried in the carpet on full boost and when the right-hand wheels caught the mud on the edge of the road, she snaked BIG TIME (held it well though).
Lesson learned and respect earned.

After our chat the other night, i hunted the car down to have a look. Glad you like it, some beastie you have there.
Are the harnesses still in it?
lOOking forward to seeing it at the next meet.

No, I had to get them taken out because I do a school/nursery run twice a week so need to take passengers in the back. The harness bar would be too dangerous for rear passengers so I got the previous owner to take them out and refit the seatbelts before I picked it up.
It's real shame though because they looked the dogs danglies, made the car really stand out. That said, I've got the harnesses and the bar at home so I may keep them and refit them if we go on any overnight meets, etc. when I know it's only me and at most, one passenger.
