E C U question
is it standard

p.s. the car is a 96 wrx sti classic
p.p.s. does anyone know if its a piggy back type or would a chip need soldering.......
what im after is to find out what power im running
can i get software for my laptop to tell me
or do i take it someone who knows what there doing

thats only half of it.........
that is the ECU case and you'd need to know whats inside.....
it could hold anything from the standard ECU through to an 'on board chip' though to a Simtek ECU.......
best bet to understand power is a powerun on a dyno

Looks standard to me Ceri. And you wouldn't be able to plug that into a laptop to upload any data.
It could be chipped but that isn't really recommended.
Other option is to purchase a after market ecu and have is mapped to the car or
keep what you have and put it on a rr if you just want to see what power she is running at mo.

Nothing wrong with chipping it check PolarPerformance or Enduring Solutions Limited.
To find out how much power it's got take it to a dyno.

Looking at that ESL site, for a chip and mapping its going to cost along the lines of 600quid , you can have an apexi mapped by Andy F for that.
Sorry if I sound a bit -chip against ,but I would rather my car run well, safe and reliable than just trying to chase power.

probably Powerstation Ceri. I can imagine a few others might like a trip up so maybe we might get a day out of it, see what the interest is. I know Chris wants ours done sometime soon

Not true, with ESL you have 3D boost control, closed loop knock control (for safe and reliable power) and diagnostic codes which you dont get with an Apexi. You get a hand controller with the Apexi which you don't with ESL. ESL is definitely cheaper than an Apexi.
