Default been a long long time but whats this worth?

hi all not posted here for over a year now. had to sell my car to pay for a deposit on a house. anyway that's all been sorted now so im looking for a classic. ive been offered a clean uk turbo 99 model nice clean car with service history every 8/10k but its done a whooping 170k mainly motorway miles inside the car is very clean and unworn. so for £2500 is it a good buy or a trouble in waiting

It's going to be a luck of the draw, You could buy a low milage one and the engine can still go pop, A good example would cost you around £4500 upwards so I'd factor a new engine (£2000) into the price, So I'd say it was a pretty good buy, even with a brand new spanking engine it's still at the entry level price for a 99 car

Seems like a bargain, but check everything else on the car and try and find proof of whats been replaced - the engine may have done 170K, but so has the rest of the car ! - gearbox, shocks, wheels, bodywork, interior etc...

Personally I'd look at spendign a couple of thousand more and getting something with a more reasonable mileage on it.

Sounds like a bargain to me, but thats only if your going to treat it with some care and have the funds available to replace the engine if the worst comes to the worst. Having a 170k it should have a stack of recipts for new parts, such as shocks, clutch and other usual suspects.

Is £2500 an asking price or the price you pay? I only ask because if its ONO you could be looking at a very good buy.

I'd imagine if you did a little searching you'd find one for the same money and less mileage..? My ex wife's car did motorway Monday to Friday.. the week after she changed her job for something local the engine went pop...
