coming home from work tonight and looked at the temp gauge **** in the red looked at the bonnet steam and smoke every where opened the bonnet and low a behold water coming out from a lovley split in the rad car started to miss fire and that was that

any idea what damage i might have done

plus i put it u; 4 sale yesterday to

probably head gasket if anything at all my water system keeps splitting from one place to the next and it keeps on going.

First get the rad replaced and then test by looking at the water in the coolant resoivor and see if you can see bubbles coming to the top, if so it looks like the head gasket might of failed.

If the gasket has failed you might of also warped the head.

Head gasket failures seem to be the in thing at the moment, speak to Andy at Ace Motorsport, (usally goes by the name of Rees ) they should be able to sort you out with a new radiator, then keep your fingers crossed no further problems ..

My rad split about 6 months back and i got 1 from my local motor factors, was about £100.

urm need to be clear on that, if you replace the rad and then refil the coolant system right to the top you need to set the heater controls to full heat (red) then leave the engine ticking over...the overflow WILL bubble and thats a god thing as its getting all the air out the system.

Same happened to me last Friday, noticed temp. gauge was max so pulled over and noticed the engine coolant was dry! oops! filled it up and drove 400 miles with no problems so think everything is ok... However lately i've been experiencing flatspots in 4th and 5th over 4k revs... Not sure if that's relevant though...

Shane you are correct, but once the system has been bleeded correctly it could still blow big bubbles out the top of the extended resoivor thats showing that there is pressure building up throughout the system which means the gasket has failed.
