Did you check the gear box oil level? might be low.

Had a look on e-bay... I dont know the car but if your interested in it I would take someone that knows a bit about them along as when these things go wrong it costs big time. One very importaint question I would ask... Has it been remaped for uk fuel and if so by who?
otherwise you might be looking at a new motor if its running lean
You will be looking at around £1200 for a box, proceed with extream care.

Mine was always crunchy ever since I bought it 4-5 years ago. It never happended when I was driving normal, only when I was going through the gears at some rate and then it was still intermitent.

Was advised by a garage when I 1st got the car that some of the synchros will need changing, Also read that crunching now and again was normal for Type R's - After 25000 miles, a few 1/4 mile runs, a 2.5 engine with various toys attached to it and running around 370 lbt I lose 5th gear and have to get the gearbox rebuilt.

Was it crunching in 4th all the time or when you were just giving it some, is it's all the time then it will need to be sorted. As Kev said you won't be looking at much change from £1200 to get it sorted if it does need rebuilding.

Put a Thread up in Drivetrain mate.
