Default Air Passing back through turbo?

I've just fitted a FMIC with a Forge Dump Valve. When coming off boost some of the air is dump back through the turbo and making a chattering noise. Which I'm assuming isn't good for the turbo. So, what can I do to overcome this? Would a bigger dump valve solve the problem?

Thanks
Chris

This could be because your dump valve is before he intercooler instead of after.

Not sure how you would over come this, My old forge DV used to make a chattering noise instead of whooosh

As Danny has pointed out Chris I've not seen a dump valve that side before myself. Might be worth taking some proffessional advise on this one I feel.

Alll here Si post #21 on

https://www.scoobynet.com/hybrid-fmic-no3-t545257.html

But this pic may be what the question is all about...

Chris I've not said anything up until now but I think you really need to heat wrap that pipe and silicon joint above the turbo, I can't quite make it out but is the heat shield still in place or not ?

Miaaoooooowwwwwwww just for the record its the first Year its been tucked up and that "road" is Thruxton race track so it will be clean Now back on topic thats definitely the wrong side. Front mounts also sound diferent with metal pipes so things will sound diferent to what they used to.

Hi Chris
Does the noise your experiencing only happen when your not fully on full boost like when you change gear early. As when you have a induction kit fitted the back pressure from the turbo blows back thru your maf and out of the induction cone. This also sends a air flow signal to your ECU and extra fuel is supplied, thus causes a slight hesitation. The air exiting the air filter makes the noise which is caused by a delay with the waste opening. On full boost the back pressure should leave via the dump valve and this noise usually does not occur unless your running large amounts of boost pressure as not all this pressure is dump to atmosphere. This is called waste gate chatter and is alot louder when a fmic is fitted as the larger volumes of back pressure due to the extra pipe work.
This my be the reason but don't hold me to it.

Chris,

The BOV should be fitted in the inlet pipe as close to the throttle body as is possible, and be of the recirculating type, thus helping the turbo rpm to hold, there for reducing lag to a minimum, with regards to the hot pipe running over the turbo this would normaly not be to much of a problem, but having a silicon joint is going to lead to some problems, unless you replace the heat shield and even lag the pipe/joint..

This of course IMO only...

John
