Turbo 2000 Stats
Afternoon all
Finally get to pick up my new toy tomorrow after goofing when it comes to arranging insurance.
As this is my first performance turbo (TD04 or TD05??)i was wondering what sort of boost does the turbo 2000 produce as standard and what is the maximum boost it can reach safely in standard form. i dont really intend to modify it soon after having it but i do fancy a boost guage so i know what the car is doing any one have suggestions which would be best and where to mount it?
Though must admit after a few visits and seeing everyone machines i dont think the modifying bug will take long to take hold so what are peeps ideas or suggestions? i was going to visit KP in abergavenny regarding things like prodrive goodies exhaust etc and was gonna lay off induction in favour of a performance panel. was also thinking of 17"ultraleggras and a 30mm drop (Honest i havent been thinking about mods much )
Any comments appreciated
Cheers

Oz wheels do like nice on scoobs, particularly classics. 17" is the right size for a classic too, IMO. Quite a few classic owners I've spoken to don't like the way the car handles or feels with 18's on.
A set of Eibach Pro springs will give you the drop you're after (~25mm), they improve the handling a lot as well but aren't too harsh if you use your car every day.
I can't help much with the standard boost pressures except I think it's about 0.8 or 0.9 on a standard WRX with a TD04. Mine's now running 1.2 bar following a remap.
I'd steer clear of induction kits too if I were you, they don't seem to provide much benefit unless you're running hi BHP and are rumoured to knacker MAF's. A good performance panel filter should do the job (for now at least ), I had a GREEN in mine for a while but have now put in an HKS Super Hybrid, £33 from Osaka in Cardiff.

I think they go to 0.9 on an upmapped car but will go up to 1.35 on remap (Tek3) mine peeks at 1.29 but I think dean has seen 1.35 on his. On a standard(ish) car this should be around the 280 BHP using a full decat and an Panel filter,
Don't use the ITG panel filters as these come oiled and you can kiss you MAF goodbye in less than 10 miles!!!!!!!! someone in the welsh section had this.
K&N, green or HKS etc should see you okay
You never goner get more than 280BHP out of TD04 if you want more, than a TD05, VF22, VF24, VF28 or VF34 will see you up over the 300 BHP
It doesn't cost much to get to around 280BHP about a £1K (Exhaust, Remap and filter) will get you there but the extra step to over 300BHP is alot more expensive

Standard boost should be 0.98 if I remember correctly
Before you spend £100 plus on a boost gauge and a pod consider getting one of these since they are on special offer a the moment well worth it especially if your thinking of further engine mods down the line.

Have a look at mine at the next meet I'm running 18's and H&R Springs.... another option to consider.

Best advice is to have a talk with the gang before you go spending to much... you will be amazed how much of your money we can spend for you
Seriously thought we have all been there and done it just about so we can give you some good ideas and guidence plus we probably got most of it on the cars as they stand

for my old classic impreza i bought a Lamco column mounted boost gauge which fitted excellent and easy to check, matched the original dashboard and was the same colour by night, i had a psi3 secs monitor too but thats not so easy to check cos the info is quite small.

Cheers SSS would appreciate if a couple of peeps could check the car out, it may help prioritse any work that needs to be done that i havent recognised also pick up any sounds etc that may point to jobs needing doing etc. a couple of mates with turbo experience have taken a look already and given it the but peeps with scoob experience would be ideal
Also went to subaru in Abergavenny today regards to prodrive mods but wernt at all helpful and scoob website doesnt list prodrive bist for classics, is this usual?
Cheers for the offer of the Zorst Daz2 much appreciated but with the deposit, insurance and a few other bits to be paid after today i wont be left with much, but il keep an eye out for the vortex bet thats gonna sound like an absolute beast
Cheers

If second hand means cheap modding then im all up for that
With regards to the exhaust, I was considering popping along to pro-speed on city road. A few mates all have tuned cars taken there for full exhaust systems and the prices are supposed to be well reasonable, quoted me £290 for catback system doing away with second cat on the sport. I also like the idea i can have it tuned for performance and have it sounding the way i like. May pop down to osaka for a decent filter this afternoon. this would only leave a remap and i may hit some better Bhp figures
Moving away from second hand ideas are there local tuning shops people use or is the internet the way to go?
What do people recommend with regards to dump valves, id rather stay away from beling labelled a chav by having a meagawhoosh sorta thing but i do fancy having one, do people use a certain type or make or should i stay with the OE subaru?
cheers

i'm unsure about DV's. I like the idea but I'm unsure whether I'd want it every day.
As far as after market mods, (particularly exhaust parts), there's pleny of 2nd hand bargains to be had.
I've paid a total of ~£150 for an H&S backbox and Magnex straight through centre, both in "as new" condition (delivered).
£90 for a decat H&S up pipe (delivered)
£100 for a lagged TSL Group N decat down pipe (delivered)
As long as you bide your time, keeping one eye on SN "for sale" sections and ebay, you'll easily get yourself some exhaust bargains.
Don't bother with the Scorpion or Mongoose type systems. Be patient and wait for the quality stuff like H&S, TSL, Magnex, Ninja, Afterburner, scoobysport, etc.

Glad to hear you got the car, haven't seen you about blackwood yet.
As a few people have said standard boost is around 0.9 of a bar (varies from car to car). With a TD04 you can rise the boost to around 1.25-1.3 bar with a remap to suit after this i think they become inefficent and super heats the air.
As someone mention you could buy a boost controller like the apexi AVCR, this will act as a boost gauge and also allow you to run higher boost (safe to run about 1.10-1.15 bar without a remap, but get it check with det cans). I ran my car with an Exhaust, filter and boot controller for quite a long time.
