Default What I did today

Decided it was about time to drain my gear box and get rid of the bits of 3rd gear that I'm sure where in there.

Popped down to West Wales Lubricants (Cheers Kev) first to get some new gear oil. Picked up some silkoline at a bargin price

Drained the gear box, I didn't know there was a magnet in the drain plug which was handy as all the bits of broken gear were stuck to that.

Have to say if no one has done it before, peice of **** to do, only trouble I had was getting the new oil in, as you have to feed it down the gear box dip stick which is only about 15mm wide. Got there in the end with a bit of hose

Popped off for a little test drive and all seems okay apart from no 3rd.

Also poished the engine up a little more

They don't seem to be fairing to well, might take them off and spray them blue to match the samco's!!!!!!

strut brace needs a good clean with the autoglym metal polish. It doesn't help with the water and road crap coming through the scoob now nothing is there to stop it.

mmm might be tempted, my seats could do with a good shampoo and theres half a ton of dust on the dash board that might need cleaning out with a shovel.

Next big job is the boot, I have all the stuff now, just need the time to cut the wood, insulation and then seal the spoiler, I've got water coming in the boot which I'm sure is coming in through one of the wholes for the spoiler.

If it's dry tomorrow I'll give it a go and then wire the amp and sub up!!!

I'm not after any more power now, I think I have enough!!!! I'm liking what Fat man scooby has had done to his, they are only sprayed and laquard but look really nice. As some of the crome has started to blister up under the scoop. might put a load of polish on them to help protect them during the crap weather and salt

nah it's sat in the shed!!!! the water and **** is coming down through the scoop not up from below,I might think about blocking it off during the winter. Having the undertry off helps with cooling

Cant you do a reverse bonnet scoop will also help with the cooling and save all the crap getting into the engine bay.

counting the minutes!!!!! can't wait to get her all fixed and running smoothly again. I know how SImb felt now!!!!!!

Been out today, starting on the boot. Stripped everything out (For those who have seen my boot will know how long this might have taken) If the rain stays off tomorrow I'll wire up the amp and sub, not goner be able to cut the wood and glue on the carpet until next weekend. Shouldn't take that long to cut the plywood, I'm goner use this as it more water resistant (Incase I have another leak) and I'm going to to use 25mm kingspan insulation under the plywood to help with the sound deadening as I don't want to use the bung on the 5Zigen!!!!!!!

dont use the ply if your making a sub box dan use mdf.are you making a new parcel shelf aswel i was thinking of making a template and banging them out,it would add a bit of qaulity to the sound and the look of the back speakers.if you need a hand wiring it me and si love doing stereo's well be happy to help.as for cleaning the boot out that must of taken you all weekend did you find any missing people in there.

Subs already in a box, had it my cupboard for a while now. I'm goner do the same as kev, reboard the bottom and cover with acustic carpet.

Cheers for the offer but I think I've got it covered, I've read the instructions and it looks pretty simple but you never know, I might be on the phone later asking questions

Dan dont buy any MDF i've got a stack of it in my garage then again it would cost you more to collect it than to buy some dont forget the quality of the sound will be better with quality installation cable, then again you are fighting against the zigen and i know who's going to win

Heres the tecky bit-

A good ice install with sub and amp = nice music
A good ice install with sub and and amp and full de-cat and big pipes = one hell of a row going on in the car
But its fun trying

cheers kev, I know you've got stacks of MDF, how else would you be able to repair the 2nd severn crossing!!!!!!

I've already got some 3/4" plywood which is more than up to the job + the acustic carpet + 25mm of kingspan insulation hopefully should drown out the 5Zigen a little, it doesn't bother me but it's the passangers you have to think about!!!!!

I've managed to get hold of a Kenwood 10" sub already mounted in a nice box and picked up a amp off ebay, which is a three way, so I can run my rear speakers (Which are Kenwood components) and the sub.

Picked up the Amp wiring kit off ebay aswell. Normal retail price in motorworld is £30, ebay = £8.50

The whole install should cost me less than £80
