Default Panic over!

Well what a top hour I just had.

I am now a Ninja at IC removal/installation and I was determined to get to the bottom of the issue tonight. I stripped the ICV and TPS a few days ago and gave it a good clean in preparation for the "Monte Carlo or Bust" Trip. All went well unit I started the car up after re-assembly. the idle was sitting at 1500rpm and the CEL was illuminated (and not cancelling) with a Code 31 indicated. I adjusted and stripped but I could not find out what the fewking hell I had done wrong. A new ICV is knocking on £400 and a TPS is nearly £230 for OE parts

So I stripped everything in the same order as before and made notes. The only thing I had not done previously was to go all the way down to the TPS on the throttle body.

When I got down to undoing the two retaining screws I realised that the switch was very loose. At this point I realised what my big biffer hands had not done previously. There is a lug on the inside of the TPS itself.

This lug needs to be placed behind the pin at 1 o'clock on the end of the shaft of the intake flap.

The way to check is put the TPS on at the 12 o'clock position. Locate it properly and rotate it toward the bulkhead until pressure is felt. Then get the pesky little screws in, the bottom one frim but the top one loose so you can adjust it later.

So, the CEL went out by itself and the RPM's needed very little adjustment. The car feels so much more responsive but it may be a combination of tightened hoses and my paranoia
