I beleive Craig and I put in 1 min 24 secs when we were playing out together (from video in-car footage)
Then a very nice chap I took out, also with a video camera, told me that I produced a 1 min 22 sec lap at the end of the day
Not bad for a P1 with an exhaust and a panel filter

Wicked if Mellow Yellow managed a 1min22 then I must have too, as we diced for a good many laps, bumper to bumper.

Craig your car fly's down the straights, unbelievable, I could only keep up with you as I was on slicks.

Great day.

Question

Not that we ever time our laps, but does anyone have an idea of decent times around Donington on slicks/road tyres?
One of my mates takes his bike there regularly and has a best time of 1 min 59secs. As I've never driven round there (yet) I have no idea if this is fast or not.

I managed 1.26 in my 1600 caterham. (On the short track)

I didn't time the lap - I had a video, then timed the lap from that...

Excellent - was that race prepped or fairly boggers.

My chum 's got a big road bike so we've been having some banter. I fully expect my P1 to be slower than his bike round Donno (unless it's nice and wet of course) but he's going to find out for himself on the 3rd Nov as he is going to come with me to the SIDC day.

Thanks for the reply I thought that everyone had gone deaf - i would nomally expect at least some abuse from Dave T-S and crew..

Hello

Well, as you invited me, rude not to abuse you.....

Are you Fat Boy Too now because you are even fatter than last time I saw you?

In which case, I expect your lap times will be even slower than last time - any slower and you may as well bicycle round

How's that?

Actually, the reason I didn't have a pop is because my mum always said I shouldn't pick on the afflicted.....

See you at Donno.......

Some solid numbers to think about...

from my limited video of the GP circuit my UK Wagon has trundled round in 2'00" with consistent 2'02"s

DJ

edit : that was on road tyres

Dave TS, you're right , I'll bring my bike and keep you company:
DJ that sounds encouraging , I didn't realise that the loop would add that much time.
Cheers

That was the standard 1600 superlight engine i.e., 133 Bhp, (Rover 'k' series) and on normal road tyres, with me (Also,..
alas, a fat bloke) and a thinner mate. (+80kg approx)

Also standard are the AP racing brakes, and big master cylinder.

I've got it on film if anyone's interested, and will bring the vid to the next Coventry meet on the 28th... I'll be buying a firewire card soon to get all this stuff on a site.

What I feel I have to mention is that the cam timing was off due to Caterham Midlands putting it back on incorrectly (1 cog out) so its a little quicker now!

I have other lap times for Oulton, Cadwell, etc if anyone's interested?

Paul.

A GSXR 1000 Superstock bike will do 1.36`2 full GP circuit.
That was the pole time for Octobers race meet. Me on my GSXR 750 I do mid 40`s and have done 1.16 short circuit.

Cheers Arron

Well answered it for myself yesterday and had a blast. Unmodified P1 (prodrive b box only ) on scrubbed road tyres, two up (both fat boys!) 1.28 30 best .Perfect conditions. Now where can I get some slicks ......

My first time around donington and what a great crcuit although smaller than I had imagined from the telly. great sequence Redgate and the Craners though Old hairpin. Copice was great as well , even if i never managed to take the same line twice - good slides though.

Only sad note, apart from Dave TS, was the couple i the blue 4 door (MTR?) who stacked it in front of me going down the Craners. Not a pretty sight, but they seemed to be OK thankfully.

Any way great day, well done Stef, Sidc,TN, - good to meet some of you at last .Oh and Caroline, has Dave finished his slowing down lap yet..

FB,
Sorry mate....didn't mean to hijack your thread.......oh, I forgot about the slicks and DMS's.....do they make a difference then
The zorst is a Scorpion de-cat from turbo back, everyone says it sounds the biz but I've not heard it....I keep hoping someone will take it around for me so I can listen
No engine mods at all......however, now the car is set up nicely, I'd like a similar power package that Craig (Newage) has got....
Brands then Bedford.....
See ya again.

Chris, feel free to hijack the thread, but do try to get a little gratuitous insult in there for DTS if at all possible

DTS sod the fugly bugly route I've got my deposit down with Prodrive for the very first P1gly WR out of the cloning tanks.

Did have a bit of a giggle trying to keep up with Mellow - car handles soo sweetly - not too sure it's especially clever trying to match the pace of a car with DMS and slicks if I'm runnnig Toyos, but it's damn damn good fun! thank god donno has 2 straights where I could make up the difference from the slicks!

With all due respect MRK what were you in ?
The only thing that kept anywhere near was Craig's car.
I do remember a DBM scoob getting close on one lap as I was "bedding" the tyres in after rotating them but after a slower lap allowing them to re-affirm themselves I went off into the distance leaving the DBM well behind
