Question

Being new to this track day stuff, I'm after a bit of advice as to buying a helmet. Are there any standards that I need to look for?
Or will a motorcycle helmet be okay? The local bike shop did say that a motorcycle helmet might not be allowed for some events.

Thanx Carl. Don't think I'll be doing any proper competition (not at my age ).

If you do a search on this BBS you will find plenty of advice. What you need is BS6658 Type A, and ACU Gold would help. You should find plenty of motorbike helmets like this for under a hundred quid, which is sufficient for 'our' use. If you intend to do proper competition, you'll need one that's FIA approved (for a start, they have to be fire retardant).

I believe that the BS 6658 standard is shortly to be replaced by a new EU standard, so I don't know what effect that will have.

Cheers, Nick, you've brought a smile to my face - not a bad thing at the start of a working day!
Think the boy racer in me will be young for a few years yet
