Hi

Motorsport Events Limited are holding a track day at the brilliant Wroughton airfield site (close to the M4 motorway near Swindon)on April 19th.

Top instructors will be on hand all day and the fee for a days track time is only £89! Beginners are especially welcome.

This will be a very professionally run day but with a strong emphasis on fun.

About a year or so ago the SIDC shared a track day there with I think the Group B car Club. It was Wroughtons first track day I believe and to say it was a bit if a farce is saying something. There was no real control of the day, cars coming and going out of the "pits" was very dangerous with spectators sanding behind a safety tape , there was no real marshalling, cars were overtaking on any side they wanted and were not being pickup on. The condition of the track was terrible, a lot of standing water, large puddles, dirt and stones on the track. It took about 3-4 laps to black flag a car which went out without it's fuel cap on and dumped fuel all over the track

I don't have very good memories of the day even though I didn't take my car on (unable to arrange insurance in time) I went out with Steve in his RB5 and saw the conditions then. There are other things that happen on the day but I'm not going to drag everything up. It may have changed now (I hope it has) I now stick to "proper" track days at full-time circuits like Silverstone, Snetterton, etc.

If it has now changed then I may return there one day.

Just my thoughts of my one and only day there.

Tim.
The sorry state of affairs at that event was down to the poo organisation of the day by the Grp B Car Club. As a result, the SIDC will no longer share an event with them.
Track condition is of course Wroughton's responsibilty, and I too would not attend another event unless this has also been sorted.
Despite all this, I did have fun though.

Stef.

I agree, I went to Wroughton a couple of years ago, the track was awful despite it raining, A chicane of cones, pot holes as you turn in to the chicane, and I also remember a certain Pete Croney demolishing his scooby into some railings after aquaplaning on some standing water.

Hi Tim

You won't have any organisation worries on days run by Motorsport Events Ltd.

The day on April 19th will be run by professionals and will there are strict rules for track etiquette i.e.

1) Marshalling
2) Flag signals
3) Overtaking on straights only (not in the corners or braking areas) and on the left hand side only
4) Top quality instructors

As an extra all guests on April 19th at Wroughton will receive a free track day hand book detailing driving techniques and rules.

I can assure you that these days will be run totally professionally and in a highly friendly manner.

Ed, you still have not stated the condition of the track? Has it got any better since the last visit?

How abrasive is the surface up there now.

Haven't seen it for a while, but it used to play havoc with tyres....

Will my bridgestone SO2s last the day or am I likely to trash them?

Surface is pretty good, not like a billiard table but not bad at all.

When were you last there?

Can't comment about your Bridgestones to be honest as I haven't got experience of that particular type of tyre.

We do have some excellent instructors who are good at teaching you ow to drive quickly but also with sympathy on the tyres.

Take care

Ed
