I appreciate there will be variations between companies, however, in general, on a trackday, does your car need:

Insurance?
MOT?
Tax?

Does it have to be road legal, of can you trail it up, drive it and trail it back (I ain't thinking of a scoob )

In general, but always check :-

Road legal and MOT's - Most places don't check for this, if your car is an obvious safety hazard (or your driving!) you'll be kicked off.
You need a valid licence.
Tax is not needed.
You need a helmet, some places let you hire them.

Edited to add insurance is advisable, but not compulsory anywhere I've been.

I'm thinking along the lines of having a dedicated track day car, hence wondering if I'd need to tax, insure & mot, rather than hoping to get a banger on the track!

Sounds like I'd probably be ok.

Thx,
Mark.

same here, so in effect i could buy 5k worth of wrx or a 2k worth of gti et al & trailer it over to a track, it would be road worthy ie safe & well maintained but without mot & tax, that would be legal & quite reasonable for track action yes?

Plenty of non road legal race cars (including single seaters) do track days - so no mot/tax/ins required - I guess it's at organiser's discretion.
Race cars have roll cages & extinguishers etc. so are usually safer than road cars.
A complete banger would probably be laughed out the place though.
