Default Dialing out understeer

Hi all,

New to scoobynet, on my 2nd classic impreza after a break and loving being back in one. Attended first track day in it yesterday, considering its bog standard the balance was very impressive. I would however like to dial out as much understeer as possible. Would a whiteline rear arb + anti lift kit and decent geo do the trick.

Does anyone else have experience of this set up on a standard car?

Many thanks

Rear ARB for sure.

I had front and rear ARBs installed by a specialist and they set to front:hard and rear:soft. Reverted those after an understeery day at Cadwell and it transformed the car.

You should be able to find quite alot on understeer by having a look around

However, and not knowing anything about your car, but if it is completely OE, then yes rarb would reduce front understeer

Question is as mentioned, do you go for both straight away, so 24 rear, 22 front, or just 22 rear?

Alot of track work I would say both

There is just so much more to it than that. Under steer is there to ensure your soft front end hits first... The car will "lean" into the back corner under power and hard braking stiffens the front up losing grip too. I've got all the kit on mine and can't stop myself from playing with ride heights cambers and springs to get the perfect feel. Working too much prevents me from doing anywhere near enough.

The things I have found that make a huge difference are front toe and ride height.

Changing the front tie rods by one flat 1/6 of a turn can transform the feel of your car.

Ride height changes alter roll centres/axis and completely alter the balance when cornering.

I fitted ALK to remove the anti squat/lift of the O.E. car. 22mm rear bar and O.E. front. BC coil overs , ER series long travel custom built. And I generally run slightly higher than stock now as the car can be more supple and still roll less than stock.

Still a work in progress.....

Got a pic of your car to see ride height?

I have a Forester (STi) which has long (er than the Impreza) travel suspension and it just eats up anything a crappy UK A/B road can throw at it
