Default Front subframe - is it needed?

Doing the teardown on the car ready for seam welding and removed the following subframe as part of the job (not my pic, off Internet).

It doesn't have a lot bolted to it and appears quite flimsy ... seemed useless to be honest.

Is it needed? If it is, is there an upgrade for it?

Cheers
Nige

Mine has been removed, but when I went for a RR day the operator told me it was there to stop flex under heavy cornering so it should be retained and to put it back on basically and that it offers better chasis structure if you where to be involved in an accident, so mixed reviews really, much like dump valves and what exhaust

Thanks, as stated I should have done a search first.

The seam welding should stiffen it up quite a bit but I see there are some aftermarket frames that I think I will invest in as well.

Thanks
