Default Rear Wheels Rubbing

I bought a scooby last week, it has 18 inch rims on it and I`m getting a rubbing noise off them on the rear when I have people on board, only over bumps tho.

I know the answer is not to give people lifts lol but is it cos I got these 225 x 18`s on??? Or have I got to start looking at springs shocks etc etc...

We found a cheap and easy fix to rubbing rear wheels was to fit spring assistors to the rear springs. You can get them from caravan spares shops or Halfrauds. Worked a treat on our Scooby when we lowered it.

I think the general idea is that when you attach a caravan to a car it will sag at the back, these 'doughnuts' sit in between a coil on either side and act as a bumper - restricting the compression of the spring. If memory serves they're about a tenner each, and strangely you but them individually and not as a pair even though you need 2 lol. You'll need to measure the gap between coils to get the right ones.

Ah i don't know about that. The spring assistors we bought from Halfords had fitting instructions on the back. YOu had to start by measuring the gap in the coils when the car is sat normally - that enables you to buy the right ones. Then you soak them in a bucket of hot water to soften them up whilst you jack the rear end up so the wheels are off the floor and the springs are completely 'open'. Then slide the spring assistor in between the chosen coil and then let the car down. That's it!

tyre size being 225 is the problem

fit 205 or 215 's and it shouldnt rub

225's are normally found on newages not classics
