Default 04 sti droplink removal

I tried to search on here for a guide on how to remove these but couldn't find one.

I removed the rear wheel to see if there was a hex slot or bolt or something that it could use to hold the threaded bolt in place as when i tried to remove the bolt on the droplink the bolt turned with it.

can anyone tell me how to remove them without cutting them off?

Thanks
chris

I think theres flat spots that you can get an open ended spanner on behind the rubber ball joint (assuming you have the straight links rather than c shaped ones)

I had similar problems when removing my droplinks for my 05 STI.
In the end we had to resort to cutting them off as the ends just wouldn't budge - think Subaru must have a special tool for it.

There were no gaps for spanners or flat ended tools that myself or my local mechanic could see, and nobody had seen similar setups

Ok just checked the standard ones that came off my car...

The rears have built in washers which would go between the rubber ball joint and the anti roll bar - these washers do indeed have flat spots (on mine at least) and I managed to get a 14mm open ended spanner on them.

Also checked my fronts and the built in washers dont have flat spots but the ends of the threads have an insert for an allen key bit

Sean - could you post a photo as this would be VERY useful for anyone who comes to do this in the future!
I thought both sets were supposed to have allen key inserts, but I couldn't find any on the rear links, and couldn't locate anywhere to get a spanner on mine when I attempted to remove them!

Sure - This is the best I can get using a camera phone:

Rear droplinks - you can just about make out the flat spots on the washers

Top man - although can't see the allen key insert on the bottom one, but I'll take your word for it
