Default BC or Tein on a Classic wagon

I want the car to feel a little better then my wrx suspension does now but with the added bonus of adjustablity for when the wifes not in the car. Just wondering what peoples experiences are like with both coilover kits on UK roads. Also servicing in the future etc.

Tein Basic are hard for our roads(tried few car with them and not very friendly for our roads),BC are great for money,if you can stretch money i would go with KW V1.

Tein all the way, had tein on my STI Wagon and they are far superior than the BC's on my Bug.

I would recommend try both if you could(ask few friends in your area) and decide after this.

I have been told that the Tein has more travel so this may work better on the roads over here. Also If rebuilding or parts were needed in the future Tein have a factory here. I dont know anyone with Subarus so my advice comes from here.

A fresh set of dampers (& springs - Prodrive?) might be worth considering. May give a better result than the BC's, and will last longer too with no need for servicing

Yes that is something I was considering, some Eibach springs with some fresh dampers, but which ones?

I went 'P1' set-up on my Type R and am very pleased with the result. An equivelaent performer would probably be KW V3. My coilover comparison was with Eibach Superstreet's and the fixed perch feels better suited for fast B-road stuff.

Pricey? For brand new yes.

You can pick up these P1 struts and springs used for ~£200. Depending on mileage they are likely to have some good useable life left in them. They can't be serviced however, unless you go the Koni insert route, butt hen you loose the character of the set-up which is the whole point.

Will the P1 suspension fot straight to my wagon? I had a feeling that for everyday fast road driving that normal (not coilover) suspension would be a better bet as it gives a blend of comfort and stiffness. I dont want the car lowered too much but I do want cornering to be a little flatter.

Yes, straight fit

The 'Prodrive' P1 springs (these were always made by Eibach) do lower the car, but do not over lower, which causes all manner of negative handling issues. The Impreza does not like being lowered too much.

Can't remember just now, how much the Eibachs lower by, think it may be 20mm

Ideally I wanted to have new shocks and springs all round so I can get eibach springs, its just a choice of what shocks to use? Koni, bilstein etc.

i have a Early wrx import and wanted more grip so bought a set of hks coil overs which were just to hard great for track but back road blasting had to take it easyer for my spines sake lol,
so got a set of mint sti v6 dampers and springs same as the P1 (red dampers) these work really well have a 40mm insert which is alot bigger than the uk or wrx dampers. but i have just changed the springs as wanted it to sit 10-20mm lower so went for hks springs with a 20mm drop and they work great. id rather do this if your car isnt full on track and is alot cheaper. dampers in very good condition fetch £200 springs £150 so £350 compared to a new sewt of coilys £700 plus i belive they will work as good if not better on british back roads, and with the money you save you can get new arb's,alk, solid drop links and bushes.

They'll do a reasonable job of things. Quite a bit better than what you have now

I have just checked pricing and the Kyb agx kit comes to just under £500, thats only £100 shy of a BC coilover kit, but add in Eibach springs and I am over the price of BC coilovers and onto TEin pricing.

How do the KYB's compare to bc, Tein, H&R etc.

Also has anyone tried H&r or Eibach coilovers on their scooby?

I've checked prices for KYB AGX and they're cost from £500-£601(Camskill).

I think here member have KYB AGX fitted and he is happy with them..Not tried, but good reports from forums in USA etc.

H&R i've tried on BMW and Audi and on them has been spot on.But for these money you have KW V1,V2 which are superior in every applications/car.

Eibach don't tried,just i've tried springs or ARB's setup,i can't comment on them.

If i would go again for suspension setup i would go with AST,KW V1,V2 or used EXE-TC,i went with HSD HR which have excellent reviews on forums..

Yes, Eibach coilovers were too firm in my opinion and non adjustable!

No longer competitive at their price point!

Can P1 shocks be reconditioned if need be? Or do you replace them, if so what with? It sounds like for everyday use the P1 shocks with eibach springs or P1 springs even and that will give a nice ride that can still take a corner or 2. On the odd occasion that I go to a track this setup should still be ok. I will changed bushes arbs etc to uprated ones anyway so this should all work together well.

Thanks for the advice guys.

That's because they're so terrible

As a potential buyer I would like a heads up on their issues

You could ask on the P1 forum if anyone has a low mileage set lying around. They sell for ~£200
