Default WRX shocks

Hi there

I am having to replace the rear shocks on my 05 plate WRX (not STI) and am going for KYB's.

My car is standard shocks at the front and I want to keep it the same at the rear and want to know which KYB's to go for at the rear to keep it standard height etc.

Do I go for the EXCEL-G or the ultra SR?

What is the difference between the two?

Could someone please look at the link at point out which ones I need to order?

Sorry for being crap!!!

Thanks in advance!!

I am going to ring KYB and camskill and have a chat with them both.

Will post if I find out anything useful.

KYB say that their 2010 catalogue will list that the replacement shocks will only fit pre 2005 model wrx's and that at the moment they dont do a direct replacement for the 2005 units - anyone got any ideas.

I have tried re-greasing mine and still have a problem.

I have a 2006 WRX with the same problem. I have been looking into this for several weeks and have no solution, not for “standard” after market shocks. I’m not paying £300 per corner OEM so I am most likely replacing springs and shocks with coilovers. Hope you have more success in your search than me.

I tried ordering a set of rears from Camskill the other day and provided my chassis number and was also told that KYB don't do a straight replacement and I could only get them from Subaru .

I'm also not paying the Subaru price for oem's to have them fail again in no time

I'm now stumped and also too skint to afford coilovers at the mo......

so what do I do?

Well at least we all seem to have been told the same thing.

I have tried re-greasing mine but that didnt work.

I think that the pre 2005 STI Kyb replacements may fit. As the ultra Sr's are upgrades for the STI - the excel g may be better

Has anyone fitted KYB these to a 2005/06/07 WRX ?????

For anyone whos interested KYB ultra sr shocks do fit 2005 on wrx's

Part No's:

KYB321004
KYB321005

The damping is uprated though (rear seems much stiffer) but this doesnt seem to had a negative effect on handling as yet.

So much for Camskills advice then....

I've decided to bite the bullet and i'm having a set of Tein Super Streets fitted next month. It's pricey but the wife said yes so i'm not going to pass on that one

Well i unfortunatly have the dreaded knocking suspension.

I have been given various options and i seem to have settled on the KYB Ultra SR.

They are to go on a MY05 WRX.

Has anyone come across competative pricing on these ?

Many thanks,

Steve

I have the Ultra SR's on mine, and have used them with no problems for the last 4 month. ( 02 Bug WRX ).

I shopped around everywhere, and ended up getting them from Camskills as they were the cheapest.

They are also very easy to fit ( providing you have a spring compressor ). Or if you are struggling - and live near me ( yorkshire ) give me a shout and I will do it in return for a few beer tokens?

Chris.

I'm needing to fit some new shocks on my '05 and I was just wondering whether anyone has any more comments to offer about the KYBs and the effect they have on handling, etc.

Cheers.

Hi ABC.

As said above - i like the Ultra SR's I have on mine.

what makes them even better is the fact they dont cost the earth. depending on what your driving style is - ( dunno if you track the car ) you might want to go for some adjustable ones - then you can change them to suit your driving.

I was hoping to put Ultra SR's on my "02" WRX wagon. Camskill says "saloon only". I thought Saloon / Wagon suspenders were interchangeable.

I know this is an old thread, are you guys still happy with the ultra's on the rear and standard shocks on the front. Is the handling good??

Would be interested to know as well as I am thinking of the Ultra SR as they are only £10 more than the Standard KYB's on Camskill?
