I have just fitted Eibach springs to my uk my00 saloon, I have now measured the distance between the centre of wheel and arch, the distance now is 350mm front and rear, I didn't flippin measure it b4 I fitted the springs, so, can someone with a my00 4dr, please go and measure between the centre of wheel and the arch please,
I'm sure this information would keep quite a few people happy.
Cheers.

Hi Ron,

Have a look on Graham Goode's web site, on there they quote 360mm front and 330mm rear i think. I measured mine and its 5mm lower than that all round but mine is a WRX.

Hope that helps a bit,

Tony

MY00 is 360mm front and rear, standard suspension with a near empty tank of fuel.

I thought Eibachs were sposed to be a 30mm drop?

I suppose it depends where you measure from exactly, but mine is definately lower than it was, I would have said more than 10mm though.
Anyone actually gonna measure a car?

Ron, this may not help but mine's a MY97 on 215/40/17 and it's 350mm front and rear !??
I should get around to fitting my eibach's tomorrow so I'll let you know the drop. I do know they take a while to settle though.

Yes I must say I'ld want a bit more of a drop than 10mm going to all that bother having them fitted (although I know they are meant to improve handling tenfold)

Can someone else measure the centre wheel to arch top on a late car with Eibachs?

Ron,

When measuring from centre, you are actually supposed to remove the centre cap so as the measurement will be independent of type of wheel, offset etc. etc. This will slightly increase the distance measured.

Anyway, the following is a load of info that you may or may not find interesting:

-------------------------------------------------------
This is the info from Subaru Australia
--------------------------------------
Official from Subaru the spring / height of your car should be as follows..

1: Remove the centre cap from the wheel ( If Subaru wheels )
2: measure from centre of axle ( where cap was removed ) to the bottom of the wheel arch ( top of wheel ) in the centre highest point.

you should get these measurements.

Front 371mm + 12mm / -24mm
Rear 363 mm +12mm / -24mm

The last two numbers are + or - the original number so for example if you read for the rear 343mm then its still in spec according to Subaru.. BTW these measurements are with the boot empty EXCEPT for anything Subaru placed in there eg. Spare Wheel.

-----------------------------------------------------
This is info from Whiteline:
----------------------------
In our experience the same model can have variations +/- 10mm from vehicle
to vehicle with earlier cars settling up to 10mm over 10,000kms. This is a
normal spread for most makes and models of cars.

Our database shows a range of 390 front and 380 rear +/-8mm for MY00

----------------------------------------------------------------
And a little more info from Whiteline
-------------------------------------

The guard cut outs on the WRX are different front to rear (like most cars),
this makes height measuring a little tricky as people see a small gap at the
rear and think the front needs lowering. Its generally safer to have a
little nose down rake and a height of 335/330 front to rear as used on P-Rex
gives about a 12 mm rake forward. This would be the limit we suggest on any
performance car (as opposed to show) and P-Rex has an extra 15mm of bump
travel built-in

Using coil-overs give you the potential for even greater suspension travel
mods, P-Rex XRD has a nominal height of 333 +/- 5 (individual heights set
according to corner weights) but the coil-over legs have even more bump
travel than P-Rex though the droop length is dramatically reduced.

Though you could argue "the lower the better", beyond this sort of height
you have to start factoring significant changes to bump steer behaviour and
general geometric changes resulting from an operating range at the extreme
of the suspensions normal working arc. That is not to say that this is
insurmountable but impractical at this level of motorsport in our opinion.

========

Having said this, I did actually measure a stock MY99 v my MY00 with H&R springs about a month ago, both with centre caps in place.

MY99 was just under 360mm
MY00 with H&R was a little over 330mm front and just on 330mm rear.

Have a look at
http://www.scoobynet.co.uk/bbs/thread.asp?threadid=66838
For some more info on H&R springs and also shocks.

Regards,

David

Just to say that Chris L and I had the same model car and mine with Eibachs was higher than his as standard. So really, the only meaningful test is to measure your car before and after to see how much it has dropped, comparing with other cars is really non-sensical

BTW, my car as standard looked like it was on stilts but after a couple of thousand miles, it was lower and when I had the Eibach's fitted, it looked a little higher again but has now dropped to lower (not that much) than the standard car was once dropped.

Hope this helps,

Matt

Oh **** !
Just got the original front springs off, and guess what ? Their Eibach's !
Car NEEDS to be lower so I'll have to look at alternatives.....

BTW Ron, looks like you've got them the right way round now anyway.

Yeah, got a new set from Graham Goode (agreed to a refund though).
I've now ordered a set of H & R's , they seem to be the same spec but lower....

Fitted the H & R springs this morning, it's dropped about 10-15mm on the Eibach's. Easy job thanks to all the helpfull info posted on here, took under 3 hours. Will post a pic in the gallery later.
Cheers

Just to show you what Matt meant. This is my old MY00 on standard springs. I had loads of comments asking what I used to lower it and I said nothing. The car was perfectly OK BTW, it was checked out by the dealer who said everything was normal.
