Default Very strange problem with steering wheel.

Hi all,
I have a 94 UK car and have recently had coilovers fitted. (D2's, I know, I know)

The car seemed fine to start with but its now got a strange and worrying issue.
If I corner hard, either left or right, the steering wheel will be off centre to the right about 30 degrees.
It isn't until I corner back in the opposite direction that the wheel centres itself again.
I have been under the car and it all seems as normal, nothing is about to fall off, but thats about as far as my knowledge goes.

Its consistent as well. It doesn't matter which way I corner, the wheel will always be out 30 degrees to the right, and always come back to centre when I corner the other way.

Please please does anyone have any experience with anything like this??
I'm not driving it at the moment as I have far too vivid an imagination and can envisage loosing the steering altogether and ending up in a ditch (or worse)

Thanks in advance,
Olly

Steering rack bushings would be my guess
I've seen the same thing before twice, and twice replacing the bushings fixed it.

Thanks very much for that.

Are they the ones holding the rack to the car?
I've just had a look and the passenger side one is split.
Are these available from motor factors or is it subaru only?
Or are there uprated ones available?

Many many thanks for your help.

Those are the ones.

I wouldnt bother fitting original ones again.
Whiteline, Powerflex and Superflex (to name but a few brands) have uprated ones in their program.
So any shop who sells one of those brands could order them, or even have them in stock.

I installed quite a few sets, and the Superflex ones were more easy to fit then the Powerflex ones, so given the choice, I would pick Superflex.

Ok, got bushes, now have another problem.

I measured wrong and ordered superflex bushes to suit 25mm brackets.
Now they are off the car they are clearly 30mm brackets.
The square one fits perfectly however and measures 35mm.
The round one does not seem to fit and only measures 30mm.
Have they put one of each in the bag by mistake?
Is it possible to grind down the sides of the bracket thats too big to make it fit?

Thanks in advance,
Olly
