Default Improve handling

Hi,

I'd like to sort my handling out a bit, whats the first step? I have lowered springs and std Shocks. Would this be a good first step:

Anti Roll Bar
Get rid of the notorious impreza understeer with an uprated whiteline anti roll bar.

22mm Adjustable
Model: All Models

Rear
Model: Classic
Price: £104

Then as step 2 would this be advisable:

Anti Lift Kit
Model: Classic
Price: £100

Would i also need the Heavy Duty Rear Anti Roll Bar Brackets for £60 to fit the rear ARB?

I would just buy the cheaper steal wire ones.

Sorry my mistake, it should come with all the parts you need bracket wise. I just fitted what it came with and have had no probs.

yeah excellent! have you done the drop links too?

if i am doing the rear arb is it worth doing the drop links at the same time?

Yes I bought the drop links at the same time, 911 used the steel wire ones on his hill climb car with no issues so if they are good enough for him.......

The oe ones are plastic with rubber bushes and tend to flex so you do not get the full use out of the new bar.

So just do the back ones while i do the ARB and perhaps do the front ones when i get round to fitting the front ALK ?

That's what I have done. I have found just fitting the rear made a big difference to turn in (middle hole of the three adjument holes). Not got around to fitting a front bar yet.

Coolio, thats what i'll do then!

having read a fair amount on it today it seems that the general consensus is the front ARB isn't worth doing unless used as a track day car as it makes it very stiff and so prone to understeer?

Think my plan is rear ARB, Rear Droplinks, then ALK and front Drop links. Sorted (hopefully)

Sounds like a plan just check your front drop links are not the ball joint/alloy botton arm type. If they are then there is no reason to change really.

OK one last questuion, where is the cheapest place to get the rear ARB and drop links for my classic?

Demon tweeks were doing a reduced rate for scoobynet users I think. You need to speak to a guy called Dave I think.

Just my humble opinion:

You will eventually want to go the whole 'road spec' hog.

IMHO:
22mm front/24mm Whiteline bars.
ALK, again whiteline as they are trouble-free.
'Wire' rear drop links, simple, safe and ...trouble-free!
As above, solid front links to be added unless you have them already.

A very good alignment job by one who knows what he is doing (critical)

Pay up now, fit once and be very happy in 2008 with the result.

At the end of 2008 be ready to move up the ladder for zero understeer...BUT to do that you can KEEP all you have invested in, that is the trick.
