Be careful about lowering the car too much as it already sits very close to the bumpstops. Also bear in mind that the later cars (05/06/07MY) have different suspension to the earlier cars and whilst the springs of an 03/04MY car will fit, they will not necessarily work properly.

Lowering an STi by 40mm is too much if you consider that they sit less than 10mm away from the bumpstops as std! The car will have an awful ride and unpredictable handling as the outside front tyre carries all the car's weight.

Nothing wrong with the Teins at all. Some of the top tuners supply and fit them. I got mine from TSL.
They do not hit the bump stops at all, even with a car full, and the handling is not compramised at all, it just a rides alot flatter.
I think the Prodrive springs lower the car 15mm at the front and 10mm at the rear (waste of time if appearance is what matters to you).

However, it's not dramatic in terms of look, as you say. They do give an excellent handling/ ride balance though.

They may work perfectly well on the Impreza they were designed for but you'll find on the later cars that lowering it by that much will mean that it's in constant contact with bump stops hence you don't feel it hitting them!
The 05/06/07MY Prodrive spring kit lowers the car by 20-25mm at the front, less at the rear.

You don't need new bumpstops with the Prodrive springs either, but it works so much better with them that they are included in the kit. Guess they may improve the ride with other spring kits but you'd have to try it to be sure.
Don't be tempted to cut the std ones down either, you'll lose what little progression they have...

You could, but you don't know for sure that they'll work well with what else is fitted. Maybe it's better to buy something that has been set up by professionals in the first place

If you are thinking about Tein S-Tech's take the time to read this....
NASIOC S-Tech Downgrade
Basically they really upgrade the looks, get rid of the nasty gap between the tyre and arch (lower more than Prodrive). But your car will now only be good for looking at as the handling will be on par with a Kia Picanto 1.1 LX
The US guys have made the thread a sticky they feel so strongly against the Teins. If you think long and hard about which springs to get i'm sure you'll come to the correct decision.... for spring upgrades there's only one name i'd go for. Prodrive! If you want to see roughly what a hawkeye looks like with these on click on view my scooby (wrx tho).
