Question

Had a coming together with a roundabout last week, hit it quite hard. Subaru main dealer did all the work (£1060 worth) and a geometry check but since ive had it back ive noticed that when driving in a straight line the steering wheel doesnt sit central. Is geometry and tracking the same thing? If it isnt is it worth getting the tracking checked out (but i would have thought subaru would have done that) and if it is what could the problem be????

Stu

Just recommended this to someone else aswell. Have a chat with the guys at Powerstation. They know their stuff and can setup the geometry etc with their laser alignment gear. Details at Powerstation

It could be quite simply that the setup has been corrected properly, but the track rod ends have not been adjusted so the wheel is central.

The rod ends are threaded on to the ends of the steering rack, so you can move each track rod end equally which does not alter the toe at the front, but does move the position of the steering wheel - if you see what I mean.

If you've already paid your money to the dealer i'd take it straight back and ask them to re-check the geomerty, it's prob just a chase of the suspesion having settled and needs to be slightly adjusted.

Agreed that a trip to Powerstation would be a good course of action.....

Chris, I take it you are pleased with the results from Powerstation then due to the number of posts on here recommending them...

(Rich, when *do* I start getting commission then? )

True Matt MOst impressed with Powerstation - highly recommended.

Sal is still getting used to it, as the combination of low profile tyres, 18" wheels and the stiffer springs has firmed the ride up. I might play around with the tyre pressures and see how this affects it aswell.

Yep, I've found that although the handling is much better it does tend to make certain bits of the anatomy wobble a bit more - still it's not a bad compromise to make

I agree with Dave - I have a similar "problem" after the front wheels were re-aligned. It just feels a bit funny, having the steering wheel steering about 3 degrees to the left when on a straight road...

Sal,

I refuse to believe that you have any bits that can wobble
