Default Rear suspension knock

Hi all

Just wondering if anyone on here has experience the much talked about rear suspension knock on a WRX not an STI.

I have a 2005 WRX with 17000 miles on the clock and I am getting a slight knock on the ns rear suspension when I am driving al low speed over an un-even surface.

Not had the car back to the dealers yet, would like to know if it is a common problem on the WRX as well as the STI before I approach my dealer.

Thanks in advance

My 05 STi has a knock from the o/s/r - top mount I believe - uneven surface or even weight transfer makes a noise! Can't see the WRX being any different in design from the STi so would expect them to suffer the same!

Going to do a bit more investigation before I allow the Stealer near my car!

i had it on my STI and its very common on these at least. In the end i changed to AST's so all gone now

I've read on here that wrx's shouldn't suffer due to different shocks but this isn't the first time i've seen a wrx owner ask about it

Had the same on my 05 WRX. If you open the boot, get someone to push the back up and down while you hold each shock in turn, you will probably feel one knocking. Had mine changed under warranty after 10,000 miles for knocking at the rear.

I would have thought it would be less likely to be a bush on an 05 car. The standard shocks are notorious for causing this problem. If the car is still under warranty take it to the dealer and have them check it.

my MY06 has this too, has been in twice at different dealers for it and will be going in again when I get chance !!! One reckoned they'd swap a shock the next a strut.

I don't care so long as they fix it !!!!

Had mine checked out last week on an 05 WRX , going in on Friday to have both rear struts and top mounts replaced under warrenty .

My concern is that will be replacing with the same type of design , as i am not aware that issue has been corrected ,just replaced , anyone know any different?

afaik no design changes have been made, there was a rumour they'd sorted it, but it keeps coming back.

Mine's now booked in for the 12th to get the osr done (the last visit they had to check what the problem was - as if it was a mystery... ).

Surely Subaru have some legal obligation here; the car is not fit for purpose.

I think mine just started knocking, the car is sitting down at the back etc., and while I have 2 years warranty left, I don't want to be left with an annual bill once the warranty expires.

If Subaru have a design flaw, then the car is not fit, and they should do something about it?

Mine is booked in for two rear struts next week (MY06 WRX). Not impressed.

This seems to effect inverted shocks, WRXs from MY05 went to this design (same as Sti). Earlier WRXs shouldn't really be effected.

Tony.

Well my old MY98 WRX wagon has had this intermittent problem since I've had it, regardless of springs or dampers that are on there. EVery now and again I get a knock from the n/s/r when taking a low speed corner like pulling into or out of a t-junction. I'm inclined to believe it's some design fault in the top mount or hub that causes it.

try some silicon lube on the strut shafts, see if it helps (albeit temporarily).. if it does then its probably that
