Hi folks!
I've a slight concern about the Leda B suspension on my car....it's a bit noisy at low speeds when cold....like knuckles on a table, but nothing drastic.....Subaru say nothing is wrong, just a noisy suspension, but I'm not so sure...
Does anyone else have experience of this?
I also suspected pad-knock, but the retaining clips are in place and that seems not to be the cause.
The car continues to drive and handle brilliantly, with even tyre wear!
I'd really appreciate your thoughts on this.....

It's not really that they are noisy when cold, they're noisy 'most' of the time unfortunately!
Sounds like the internals are sticking together. I'm sure Pete Croney could give a technical explanation.

All aftermarket suspension is noisier, especially when cold. The standard stuff is also noisier when cold, but to a lesser extent.

Its down to using damping oil that can cope with the temps generated by the stiffer damping. To do this, its grading is higher and it is a bit too thick on a cold morning, until it gets warmed up.

I guess it was just a matter of time before anyone decided to open this can o' worms again...

What I'd *very* much like to know, is what's causing the knocking sound.
Something in the strut has to give, or have a small amount of play...otherwise they'd be silent, no matter how thick the oil is.

Or is it something else in the suspension that gives and causes the rattle?

I haven't noticed any effects from it (1+ yr with them now), so I'm not worried, just a bit curious on what's causing the sound.

Pete...please forward the question to Leda, a technical explanation (with pictures even?) would be lovely.

I converted my Legacy GTB to adjustable coilovers, using the original inverted Bilstein struts (It handles superbly) and this is also much noisier in cold weather, (knocks and creaks/groans) so I don't think its just down to the Ledas

My rears - especially NSR - rattle like buggery from cold. NSR still rattles after 65 mile drive (mainly M'way & DC) to London

Need to give it a "workout" before it completely quietens down Saying that, within 5 mins of finishing track sesh @ Prodrive the other day, it was rattling again!!

Hopefully will be sorted when I have them serviced at Easter.
