just had eibachs put on.....
hey all, just had a set of eibachs put on at demon tweeks when i had the fast road geometry set up done and now when ever u go over rough road or speed bumps its sound like i have something metal loose. also a cluncking on front passenger side. me and a mate have had a look but cant see anything.
any ideas? cheers

yes mate done mine last week clunking when u drop off the speed ramp there ain't a 100% cure for it but i used the rear plastic covers off my original rear springs and put on the front its where the springs are hitting each other heard powerstation tape the bottom of the spring up took me ten mins to jack car up and place plastic cover on then jobs a good un but don t 100% get rid still there very slightly

I've heard of people using heatshrink tubing (plenty of sizes available from Maplin, among other places) to go around a couple of coils.
Obviously needs to be shrunk with heat so it doesn't just slide around.
Whiteline also sell coil wrap, but I've never seen anywhere advertising it. Likewise Tein also produce some, never seen it on sale here though.
I'm getting some Eibach springs fitted by Powerstation next Monday. I'll ask them about it and report back.
I'd heard about this problem before and it makes me a bit nervous/disappointed that Eibach springs cause this. I'm not doubting their performance, its just a shame they seem to introduce some extra noise.

I'll probably be on here singing their praises for such an awesome job anyway, but I'll make a special point of asking them about Eibach springs.
I'm tempted to try the heatshrink method before next Monday, but another part of me wants to see what they do (if anything).

good idea with the heat shrink just make sure u put it at least 1/4 the way up that will work defo,if u look under your arch u can see where the coils are sitting on each other u may see where the paints wearing off too thats the part u got to cover hope this helps if u use heat skrink too put 2 or 3 lots on to make it thicker let me know how u get on

Ive got it, and sometimes i get the metal lose plate sound. thats on a my06 with eibachs. ive been trying to solve it for ages.
took back lots of times and they resit them and then about 2 miles down the road back to square one.
any help would be great

You got to make sure to pull off the plastic from the standard springs and fit these between the first two coils on the front springs.
It doesn't seem to be so much the "base" of the spring but the touching of the first two close coils as the suspension moves.

Has anybody thought of making a small slot on both sides of the spring base of the strut big enough to fit a jubilee clip through and around the base of the spring. I used to do this with old Mk2 Escorts years ago to keep the springs in one place when you jacked it up.
I haven't yet upgraded mine to Eibachs but i'm hoping to do soon. If Fuzzs' comment is correct this obviously wouldn't stop the cluncking.
Haven't looked closely enough on the impreza strut but it should work.
Hope this idea throws some more thoughts into the dilema

On another note, the springs haven't exactly lowered my car much. Certainly not the 25/30mm as advertised! I'll see if they settle at all, but so far its probably 10mm lower than before.

Mine was lowered more than enough. Looks great. How can I tell if its this spring prob causing the noise? Ive bounced the car while stationary and no noise. Could it be the drop links or struts?

its a little hard to tell in pics but i think its made more of a difference to the front these newage seem to sit that little bit too high i think these springs give it that nice stance i took that last pic day after i fitted them,fitting front splitter end of the month too

I didnt get any wrap for my 03 WRX Eibachs that i know about, but yes from new very very noisy. But quickly settled down to the odd knock here and there. Now they are either ok, or i just dont even notice it.
From new, i hated the noise and wanted them off. But now its not a problem.
IIRC, mine took around a few days to quieten, then longer to fully settle proper.

Just an update on my experiences with my newly fitted Eibachs...
Not exactly much lower (if at all) over my standard springs.
Ride is a lot harsher now (hell of a lot more interior rattling/squeeks).
No unusual banging sounds due to springs not seating correctly/coil bind etc. That's probably due to the coil-wrap used by Powerstation.
In some ways I'm not overly happy with the setup. Although a bit wallowy, I loved how the standard springs could handle most bumps and crappy road surfaces reasonably well. In some ways I feel my car is now slower as I have to actively avoid the larger bumps and pot-holes. Especially noticeable is the lack of compliance on those lighter-coloured grip-tarmac sections they're laying down before junctions/roundabouts (hope that makes sense!). Before the change I didn't really notice them. With the new setup, the whole car kind of buzzes/rattles.
