Default Shocks - complete struts or inserts

I'm looking to get a new suspension kit for my car, and ideally intend to install it myself. So I know what I'm in for, does a MY01 bugeye impreza have complete strut assemblies (Which I suspect they do) or do they only require replacement inserts.

The reason I ask is that the subaru manual seems to say it's a full strut, but one place I have seen advertising states 'inserts suitable for KYB strut only' and most pictures seem to be of inserts.

Koni produce strut inserts that can be fitted to hacked KYB struts. All the others are complete struts.

Does that mean that the koni sport kit includes inserts, or is that only if you buy the shocks individually

I really don't want just the inserts My struts just look like cr@p at the moment and I want them replaced, but the sport kit seems like an affordable option

I wasn't really after coilovers and I suspect you'll be asking quite a bit more than I really want to spend.
